Saturday Savers 2025 Progress Report - Week 25

It's Saturday, and time for my weekly #SaturdaySavers update.

This is going to be a slightly different (and shorter) one than usual - I'm on holiday, so don't have access to my normal array of spreadsheets and data. That, and ice cream is beckoning....

In the absence of a spreadsheet, the key numbers are;

HP grew from 12267.071 to 12302.382 (+35.311)
HBD grew from 2733.295 to 2736.443 (+3.238)

All the others I'll work out when I get home !

How Did The Week Go ?

I think a key factor this week has been the HIVE price dipping again. It seems to follow a pattern; a sharp dip followed by a slow and gradual clawback.

But it does concern me that the overall trend is downwards. It's frustrating because Hive is an ecosystem with a huge amount of functionality and useful apps included. The potential is massive.

I'm not sure what can reverse the decline. Possibly some new app with the kind of broad external appeal of Splinterlands, which would bring in a flood of new users investing cash and pushing up the market cap.

But more realistically, I begin to think the real solution is a hard fork. One which improves incentives for those keeping market cap in the system rather than draining it out. Ideally, the DHF would grant loans rather than giving out free funds, and proposals would pass based on costed out business cases and more easily for ones borrowing less from the DHF. Also, distributing earnings more evenly across the user base rather than focusing them on just the top 20 witnesses and those with both coding skill and enough influence to get proposals through would help keep market cap in the system and retain users more easily. But I appreciate I'm talking revolution here.....

Despite all this, I still like Hive. It's brilliant as a creative outlet and a way to make friends all around the world. Apps like Distriator and the Ghana water well projects are making a noticeable difference in the real world.

Something I'll look into when I et back are whether there are any debit cards available for UK users which could be loaded with HBD (or HBD converted into LTC or something) and then used for daily spending.

I'm thinking in terms of getting my monthly interest to around 40 HBD a month, then pulling half of it out each month to help with real world expenses in a way which doesn't touch the capital.

This would also very gradually reduce the fiat value I've put into Hive as a way to slowly re-balance my investment portfolio.

That's it from me for now.... I hope you've all had great weeks. I'll be thinking of you as I enjoy my ice cream on the seafront 😁

If you're not familiar with SaturdaySavers, it's a fabulous initiative run by @shanibeer writing as @sally-saver on the @eddie-earner account, where we all support each other in getting to our savings goals.

If you are one of my friends reading this (or just someone who tripped over one of my posts), I really recommend this as a great community that's well worth joining.

I'm normally very disorganised about saving, and the support of the wonderful people in #SaturdaySavers has been invaluable in keeping me focused. I can honestly say that without it, my HP would probably be half what it is now.

So join ! You don't have to wait until the start of the year. The best time to start saving is ten years ago. The second best time is right now !
