It's the first day of the month, and that makes it Hive Power Up Day !

I've done my bit this month, powering up some of my liquid HIVE;

The market in all classes of investment are bonkers volatile right now, with the prices of just about everything crashing. So far, share prices seem to be the only assets which are showing just minor changes. But crypto, gold and silver have dropped hard over the last couple of days.

My suspicion is that a lot of this is a mix of profit taking and blatant market manipulation. I won't be surprised if gold and silver climb back to their ATH's in the near term, especially if the US starts any of the threatened military operations against Iran, Cuba, Greenland or Columbia, or if the EU goes through with their threats to try to take Russian-flagged oil tankers on the high seas.

With markets being bearish and the crypto market being in a state of extreme fear on most of the FUD meters I've seen, HIVE has been no exception. The price saw a sharp drop on Friday; I'm sure it will climb back up again, but will probably take some time. In the meantime I've started the process of pulling my HBD out of savings in the hope of being able to convert them to liquid HIVE at a rate which buys me lots. Then I can decide at a later date whether to buy HBD back when HIVE has strengthened.

The decision to move HBD out of saving is entirely unemotional for me; I've set myself a figure of 3 x the current haircut price level, and if HIVE drops below that I convert HBD to HIVE. The logic is that when HIVE drops in price, it consistently seems to be around a third of the haircut level, so this policy gives me time (just !) to survive two rapid drops in succession and get out of HBD before there's a haircut.

Despite this, I still have confidence in Hive as a platform. I'm getting into a frame of mind that it's a nice place to interact with friends from all around the world, and that'll be the case whatever the price. But it would be nice one day if the HIVE price ever climbs enough that I can recoup at least some of my initial investment !
