Ridley Scott copies Ridley Scott in Gladiator 2

Good evening, gentlemen, I just saw Gladiator 2, the second part, or rather the continuation of that legendary film called Gladiator, which was nominated for 12 Oscars, of which it won five, including best film of the year and best actor for Russell Crow, and after leaving the movie I can only say

holy mother of God

This second part is not going to win any Oscars, much less the one for special effects, which were made by a little boy, and speaking of bad things, the protagonist Paul Mescal is far from having the presence of Russell Crow. In fact, if I am honest with you, I think that depending on what you expect from this movie, you will enjoy it or you will think it is crap.

Let's see if you expect this second part to be better than the first or at least to be just as epic, the truth is that it is not and it is far from being so

And yes, obviously it is difficult to surpass that Masterpiece or at least you are not going to match the quality that you gave us before, why do you make a second part? Yes, the standard is very high, but it was also very high for The Godfather and The Godfather Two is even better than the first and the same thing happens with Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back or do you remember Terminator? Well, the standard was very high and the second part is much better. Do you remember Alien? Well, Aliens is just as good. The fact that the standard is very high does not mean that it cannot be surpassed. Or what do you say about Batman The Dark Knight? What's more, do you remember that ible series called Spartacus?

Well, that series lost its main character and they continued making it with the same quality. I tell you that no, it is not impossible to surpass the original and yes, we should expect something better, especially with all the technology we have today at hand. In other words, if we can achieve the epicness of the first film,

it is very difficult

so why are you making the second one if this sequel nobody
asked for and nobody expected?

Gladiator 2 is not, it is not at that level. The story does not have the depth of the first one. The musical score does not even come close. The special effects, especially those of the animals, are really bad. They look like they are made by computer, especially the rhinoceros, the sharks, the baboons and not only in those parts. In fact, there are several moments in which the quality drops a little. On the other hand, our main character does not act badly but he does not have the presence that is needed and as for the story, the truth is that Ridley Scott shamelessly copies Ridley Scott. and it brings us the same idea that it brought us 25 years ago

So in summary we could say that Gladiator 2 is style over substance or rather entertainment over substance. In other words, it is a much more superficial film than the original film. It lacks that depth and they focus a little more on the spectacular nature of everything from the coliseum battles to the hand-to-hand fights. And there is nothing wrong with that if that is what you are looking for, the film delivers. In other words, if you want to see a popcorn or Sunday movie, Gladiator 2 is perfect for that.
