Terminator Genisys (2015): Should We Be Afraid of AI?

Wow it has been more than one year since I last watched a movie!

With the proliferation of AI these days, a friend actually recommended me to watch this movie, Terminator Genisys, because some parts of the movies actually bear semblance to what is happening now, with all the LLMs and AI agents, also having access (if granted) to many of our apps and files. So over the weekend, I actually sat down and watched the movie.

The Good

The movie was around 2 hours which was a decent length, and I enjoyed the science fiction genre even though I am usually more of a fan of comedy movies. I think many parts of the film were thoughtfully filmed and it definitely wasn't easy to capture the special effects.

I especially enjoyed the action packed nature of the movie, all the way from the start to the finish. It was really fighting and fighting, which definitely was not easy for the cast.

The Bad

As a person who hasn't caught any of the Terminator series (I know right), this was initially hard to follow. I couldn't really understand what was really happening and the time travel just made it more confusing. Thankfully there was AI (how ironic), which I quickly asked for some background, so that I can fully appreciate the movie.

Other than the somewhat confusing movie, I felt the movie was quite one dimension on the science fiction/tech side and after a while it was just more of the same. Humans vs robots from the start to the finish.

And it was also quite predictable that it was going to be a happy ending, even with time running out, even with key members injured. Because what would happen if the mission failed right?

All in all, I think this was a little bit on the disappointing side but I think this would satisfy fans of this genre or probably those who have been following the Terminator series. But if you ask me, give me Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings anytime over this. Haha.

So for the Terminator fans out there, tell me what you think?
