MOTHER'S WERE ONCE YOUNG GIRLS WITH DREAMS

Mothers Were Once Young Girls With Dreams

Before they became mothers, they were young girls with dreams.

We see them today as mothers. Cooking in the kitchen. Shouting at children to go and bath. Going to market. Paying school fees. Praying at night when everybody is sleeping. We think that is all they have ever been. We think they were born to be mothers.

But we forget one thing. Mothers were once young girls with dreams.

There was a time when that woman you call mother was a small girl wearing school uniform, running around with friends. There was a time she stood in front of mirror and imagined her future. She wanted to be a doctor. A singer. A fashion designer. A teacher. A business woman. A pilot. She had big eyes, big laughter, big plans.

She wrote her dreams in her diary. She told her friends, "When I grow up, I will..." She believed the world was waiting for her.

Then life happened.

Some got married early. Some had children when their own dreams were still young. Some had to drop school to help their family. Some had talent but no support. Some had dreams but no money. So they folded those dreams, kept them in a corner, and picked up a new title — Mother.

Nobody talks about how many dreams mothers have buried.

That market woman shouting "buy pepper" — she once wanted to be a lawyer. That woman carrying child on her back while frying akara — she once wanted to be a musician. That quiet woman in church who always sweeps — she once wanted to own a big shop. But they sacrificed.

Mothers sacrifice silently. They will not tell you they gave up their dream for you. They will just smile and say "I am okay." But inside them, there is still that young girl. That girl that wanted to dance. That girl that wanted to write. That girl that wanted to travel.

This is why we need to celebrate mothers differently. Not just on Mother's Day. Every day. Ask them about their youth. Ask them what they wanted to be. You will be shocked at how much they have inside.

And to every mother reading this — your dream is not dead. That young girl inside you is still alive. You can still pick that dream again. You can still sew. You can still learn. You can still sing. You can still build. Being a mother does not mean the end of your dreams........... It can be the beginning of a new one.

Because mothers were once young girls with dreams, and those dreams still matter.

We see you. We appreciate you. We love you.
