The house of the Apostle of the Independence of Cuba

Visiting José Martí's home house is a pending debt that I have a long time ago, unfortunately every time I go to Havana is under repair or closed. This time was no exception.
The house located on Paula Street No. 314 (today Leonor Pérez Street No. 314) and was built around 1810. It is a typical colonial housing inhabitants of a single plant, with masonry walls and tile roof. Fortunately, from very early Cubans realized the historical relevance of the place and the property has been preserved without important aesthetic changes until today.
It was in this house where, on January 28, 1853, the Apostle of the Independence of Cuba, José Julian Martí Pérez, was born. That I have to recognize I fell a little bad due to the political saturation to which we were subjected to children with their figure and their phrases mixed with everything. Already more of great when I could read it with more awareness and know about his unifying work I could repair the admiration and appreciation of his greatness.

Over the years, the house had several uses and suffered modifications. In 1899, after Martí's death and the end of Spanish domination, a group of illustrious Cubans began a campaign to rescue the house and turn it into a monument to their memory.
On January 28, 1925, on the 72nd anniversary of his birth, he officially opened as a Martiana Fragua Museum, being one of the first museums dedicated to a historical figure in Cuba. In 1949, the house was declared a National Monument. And on November 26, 2019, the 40th UNESCO General Conference declared José Martí's home house as a world relevance patrimonial collection, including it in the world memory record.

Today, the site is officially known as José Martí's home museum and functions as the governing institution of the study of the life and work of the hero. Perhaps to this is due to the ample space that accompanies the property in park or square mode.

It is indeed one of my debts too, never been there, never had the chance nor the means. Hope I can pay a visit one day.
