Convent of Santa Clara de Asís

Seen from the outside, it's a large yellow rectangle. Beyond the religious history of the Convent of Santa Clara de Asís, which operated as such from its creation in 1644 until 1921, when it was sold to a real estate agency due to the order's change of location, it is famous for being the cause of the Protest of the Thirteen.

An act of protest against the corruption present in the sales agreements for the building by the government of President Alfredo Zayas in 1923. Because of this fact, always taught in Cuban history, I was very curious to see the building in question.

I recently saw that it had reopened as a center for advanced studies run by the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana, dedicated to training in the Arts and Crafts of the Restoration. This happened after an initial phase of restoration; however, the day I was there, it was not open to the public.

However, I was able to observe some of the restoration and/or modernization work on the premises. They are currently working on the exterior of part of the facade.

With today's visit, I fulfilled one of my pending wishes/curiosities. I would have really liked to see the inside, but I guess that will have to wait for another opportunity.

A beautiful place, a must-see!
You've reminded me of the wonderful moments I enjoyed there during a summer school I attended years ago.
