After my friend's wedding... the couple decided to set off for an adventure.
‎
‎Our first destination? Luyang Cave in Catanduanes.
‎
‎This cave has a natural beauty and the thrill of the mysterious cave.
‎
‎We went there with our motorcycle. I was with my hubby and sister, Princess.

The lush greenery surrounding us while traveling makes our morning so fresh.
‎
‎As we arrived at the entrance of Luyang Cave, we could already see the towering rock formations.
‎
‎We can also feel the cool breeze that comes from the cave.
‎
‎Equipped with our flashlights and curiosity, we ventured inside.

The air was cool and slightly damp. It is also filled with the earthy scent of stone and moss.
‎
‎As we wandered deeper, it was quiet.
‎
‎We paused to admire intricate formations.
‎
‎We also discovered a dead bat, in the soil.

‎While capturing the moments, we laughed and an occasional bat was fluttering by.
‎
‎As we continued our exploration, it felt like we were uncovering secrets of the earth. 🤭
‎
‎Not until a pungent odor wafted through the air.
‎
‎It was a strong, unmistakable scent of a bat.
‎
‎While holding our noses, we decided that it was time to turn back.
‎
‎We need to retreat before we transform into walking bat aromas. 😂
‎
‎As everyone agreed, we started our journey back.
‎
‎When we finally emerged from the cave into bright daylight, the fresh air greeted us.

Finally, we stepped out, inhaling fresh air.

That was an adventure of a different kind!
‎
‎While sharing our experience in the warmth of the sun, we just discovered the history of Luyang Cave.

It goes like this:
‎

‎History of LUYANG CAVE
‎
‎In the 18th century, a village called Binanwahan existed in the northeastern part of the present, now Barangay Lictin. Inhabitants and settlers of the village were Christians who were attacked and pillaged by non-Christians or "Moros." The ever-vigilant inhabitants have lookouts near the shores of the now Barangay Palawig to forewarn the residents of the incoming danger of the invading enemies by tolling a big bell and building a smoke. When the Moros arrived one day, they were surprised to discover that the village was empty of inhabitants. They, however, hid and waited patiently for the villagers to come back. Soon, a woman was seen coming to catch fish. The Moros wittingly followed her, coming back to the hiding place where a rock from the cave was discovered by them. Villagers who all hid inside the cave had filled its entrance with dried tree branches and twigs to deter them and ground "sili" leaves and fruits to discourage the invaders from entering the cave. When the invaders finally tried to enter the cave, the inhabitants burned the pile, thinking it would prevent them from going inside. But the wind direction instead blew the smoke towards inside the cave, which suffocated them to death. Luyang Cave, now historically named "LUYANG CAVE PARK" is a mute witness and testimony of the tragic fate of inhabitants trapped and dying inside. A memorial service is yearly commemorated in memory of those who perished.

‎After reading that, we found out that this was once a sanctuary, for the people who inhabited these lands ages ago.
‎
‎They sought refuge here in times of hardship.
‎
‎Because of that, visiting Luyang Cave was a truly unforgettable experience.
‎
‎The cave's rich history made it a fascinating destination.
‎
‎The tragic story of the villagers who lost their lives in the cave added a touching layer to the experience.
‎
‎It serves as a reminder of the island's complex past.
‎
‎Before we left the cave, we felt a deep appreciation for the natural beauty and cultural significance of Catanduanes.

Luyang Cave is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history, or simply exploring the great outdoors.
‎
‎Its haunting beauty and powerful story will stay with me forever. 🫶
‎
‎Until our next fascinating destination... Buh-bye. 👋💕

Its so pretty in there but the cave kinda has a scary vibe. Grabing pagka adventurous nyoooo. I'n so inggit.

But seriously though, that cave has that kind of stories. How loud the scream that can be heard there during that time when they are suffocated to death. Or maybe there's no scream at all and they just accepted their fate. Hahhh, thats just sad.

Kaya nga diba? Buti nalang talaga nabasa namin yung history after namin pumasok. Thinking if I knew it sooner, I think I won't dare to go inside. HAHAHA... Mala horror cave for me 😅
