Is Filandia the prettiest town in Quindío? Honestly, I can’t say for sure. But Filandia and its neighbor Salento are often considered the prettiest towns in Quindío, one of the departments that make up the Colombian Coffee Region.
I visited both on the same day, a little over a year ago, when we took a quick trip to Pereira and spent one of the days on an excursion to explore a bit of the Coffee Region. We made a brief stop in Salento in the morning, you can read about it in A quick visit to Salento, a beautiful town in the Colombian coffee region. In the case of Filandia, we visited it in the afternoon to have lunch.
We arrived in the town, and our transportation dropped us off at the main square.
The square was full of people, and there were craft stalls all around it.

The church, which we could not visit in the interior, looked beautiful to me.

And I would have loved to take my time exploring the square and the church, but we were short on time, so we headed right away down one of the streets leading off the square toward the place where we were going to lunch.

The José Fernando restaurant, located in a very colorful house on Carrera 5.

A view of the street, with the hills of the Coffee Region in the background.

The restaurant’s specialty was Colombian cuisine, and I ordered a traditional dish from the region: sudado de carne. It’s a kind of stew, and the meat was very tender and delicious.

As I was leaving the restaurant, I saw this Chiva. They’re small, painted, and decorated buses that take tourists on sightseeing tours.

We headed toward the plaza, admiring the facades, some of which were very colorful.

The area around the main plaza was still very lively.

And we would have loved to stop at a café to have a coffee or hang out for a while. But we still had to get back to the city and catch a flight back to Bogotá.

So, for now, we’ll settle for this quick glimpse of Filandia. Which, as the sign at this place says, is considered the prettiest town in Quindío.

I hope to visit it again in the future and explore it at a more leisurely pace.

Thank you for reading.
that traditional beef stew sounds like a great way to fuel up during a busy afternoon of sightseeing. having to rush off to catch a flight always cuts into travel time though

Such a beautiful town, and it has a lot to offer to the tourist. Even the buildings are worth taking a glimpse coz they all look pretty. And I think you went there at the right time, no Mr. Sunny or whatever to make y'all sweat. The walk and looking around here and there are more enjoyable ( /^ω^)/♪♪
Now I understand why it's known as the prettiest town in Quindío! Even I am amazed by its colorful buildings and that adorable bus, which looks so festive and cheerful. When your surroundings are filled with vibrant colors, they naturally attract people's attention and create such a joyful atmosphere. It's as if the colorful environment brings smiles to people's faces, too. What a lovely town!
