Back-to-Back Champion: Our Community Garden Success

Yesterday was our judging day, and I want to share what really happened from my experience.

We arrived early in the morning so we could finalize and ready everything before the judges came. As part of the committee, I focused on our documentation. I checked all the papers again to make sure they were complete, organized, and easy to understand. I arranged them in a way that clearly showed our process from preparation, planting, up to maintenance.

At the same time, my neighbors were busy with their assigned tasks. Some putting label in the plants and other are preparing the garbage. I also arranging our mini market, displaying our harvested vegetables neatly. Others were cleaning the surroundings and making sure everything looked presentable. We made sure the area was really clean because we know it is one of the important things the judges look at.

We also prepared simple food for our salo-salo like kankanin, buko juice and grilled catfish so everyone could eat after the judging. Even while working, you can feel the teamwork because everyone knows their role.

When the judges arrived, we welcomed them and started the tour. I was the one who explained our documentation. I showed them how we organized our records and how our community worked together to make the garden successful. I explained clearly and directly so they could easily understand.

They also checked our plants and mini market. They looked closely at the condition of our crops, and we were confident because we maintained them well. They asked some questions, and we answered honestly based on our experience.
After the judging, we waited for the results. We were all quiet but hopeful.

Then the results were announced.

We got CHAMPION again.

It was a simple moment, but very meaningful for us. Winning last year was already big, but winning again this year proves that we were consistent. Our preparation, teamwork, and effort paid off.

Now, we feel more pressure because next year we are aiming for a grand slam. That means we need to start early again and improve more.

I’m proud of our community because everyone really contributed. No one was left out. This win is not just for one person, but for all of us who worked together.
