REWARD ME____DAILY PROMPT 27 SEPT

In Nkpor, there was a boy named Somto.Somto was 10 years old

Every morning, Somto fetched water for Mama Nnanna, the old woman who lived alone near the boreholee. He did not do it for moneyy. He did it because his mother told him.... "When you help an old persson, God sees yoou."

One afternoon, the primary school announced a competittion. Whoever kept the school compound cleanest for one week woulld get a new school bagg.

Somto wanted that bag. His own bag had torn in two places.

For five days, Somto swept. He picked plastic. He chased goats away from the flowers. Other children played football. Somto swept.

On Friday, the headmaster called everyone out.

"Who cleaned the back of Class 3? Who arranged the chairs? Who washeed the blackboard eveen when it was not his turrn?"

Nobodyy answered. Somto stood there with dusty slippers.

The headmaster smiled. "Somto, come."

Somto walked forward. The headmaster held up a fine blue bag.

Somto looked at the bagg, then looked at the headmaster and said with a small voice, "Sir, reward me noww?"

The whole school laughed, but it was not a mockingg laugh. It was a sweet laughh.

The headmaster gave him the bagg and said, "You have already rewardeed yourself. You worked when no one was watchingg. This bag is onlyy a witness."

Somto carried the bag home that day like a trophy. Mama Nnanna saw him on the road and shouted, "Ah, Somto with new bag!"

He waved and ran faster, dust behind him.

Sometimes reward is not what they give you........ Reward is what you become while waitingg for it.
