My first bicycle was not mine......
It was second-hand, painted blue, with one brake that only made noise but did not stop anything....🤷
My papa bought it from his friend at Upper Iweka for 8k. He pushed it home that evening like he won lottery.
"Ah! Na your own be this!" he shouted.
I was 11. I had never balanced bicycle before. All my friends in my street already knew how to ride. They used to laugh at me.
That bicycle was too big for me.... My leg no reach ground. So I learned with fear.

First day, I fell inside gutter. Second day, I jammed Mama Nkechi's okpa tray. She pursued me with spoon. Third day, I fell again, my knee peeled.
I wanted to give up....
But on the fourth day, something clicked..... I held the handle, pushed one leg, and I did not fall. I was moving. Wind was blowing my shirt. Dogs were barking behind me.
I was flying!
I rode from our compound to the end of our street and back without putting leg down. Papa was clapping from the gate. Mama was shouting "slow down! slow down!"
I did not slow down. For the first time, my mates were not laughing. They were running behind me, shouting "make I ride! make I ride!"
That blue noisy bicycle gave me wings that day.

There's nothing quite like that first ride on a bike—knowing that you've finally mastered it and found your rhythm gives you a sense of victory, not to mention the freedom you feel while riding it. I loved reading your post, sweetie. Best wishes!
