Beneath the easy smiles
And laughs that make the eyes sparkle
Warmth nearly wraps me in them
Until the fangs appear.
The smiles and laughs stay for a long moment
I almost believed
It was real, a gem
In a dying world
Of fakes mimicking the originals.
My gasp of shock and pain
Runs through me and sinks deep
For in a world of many fakes
With fangs dripping red
The better game player tramples bleeding hearts to the top.
Would I yield willingly
To the fang that calls because of my pain?
But the pursuit would not end
Their growls, loud and harsh, are unrelenting
To get their want at all costs.
I wanted the smiles and laughs
Why would I settle for the fangs,
For the deception beneath
The sparkling eyes?
Unrelenting too,
I must pursue my desire
And not settle less.
