BEFORE.....

“Why won't they stop moving?” I ask, chewing my lower lip, gazing at the bodies moving past me in fast motion. I hug myself as a woman brushes past me, my skin pebbling with goosebumps.

Tim looks confused and a little irritated. He holds out his hands, realises something and quickly pulls them back. “You shouldn't be out here,” he says gently. “Come, let me take you back to the hospital.”

He steps closer and I flinch, taking a step back. His face tightens in hurt, his hands clenching at his side like he wants to reach for me but is afraid of my reaction.

“I don't remember you,” I declare flatly. The words land between us like broken glass. “I don't remember being married. I can't go anywhere with you.”

“I know,” he whispers. “You are overwhelmed now…but please trust me to take care of you.”

His beautiful eyes are pleading and I want to go with him. But something is holding me back as though I should give him a wide berth.

I press my fingers to my temple, trying to force something back. Anything. I need to remember him but I'm coming up blank until a whisper floods my mind. Light the way.

“Did you hear that?” I ask in confusion, glancing around. Water spills more from the fountain and people move fast, almost like a blur. Something is not right.

Tim's expression changes, his lips curve up in a smirk. “I've been looking for you. Time to return to your room. Don't make me chase you again.”

Again?

I inhale sharply as my instincts warn me to run. He's the one I'd been running from.

“Stop, Laura! Come back here.”
