A Quick Nap [Fiction]

It was supposed to be a quick nap. At least that was what Tony Idoko told himself before he fluffed the pillows and lay down. He glanced at his wrist watch and nodded. He had twenty minutes to rest his mind and body before the next task of the day.

Four hours later.

His eyes slowly opened as he raised his hands and stretched, letting out a yawn. That was the best sleep he'd had in a long while, especially after a forty-hour shift at work.

He sat up and shook his head, his hyperactive mind alerting him to his next task, as it always did. He furrowed his brows. Something was amiss and he couldn't place his fingers on it.

It was his day off and he remembered promising to help his wife with something but his mind couldn't summon this information to the surface.

After a few minutes of searching his memory and nothing came up, he shrugged and went into the kitchen to start their meal prep.

Then his phone buzzed. It was a text from his wife.

Are you back home with our children? Their lunch is in the oven. Love you.

His heart beat twice as fast as he grabbed his car keys and dashed out of the house. He was a dead man unless the children were safe.
