Haven’t Got a Plan

Life sometimes feels like a journey that demands a clear pathway, a carefully drawn map from where we are to where we want to be in the future. Society frequently tells us that by a certain age we should have a plan, career goals, financial stability, relationships, family and kids and a vision for the future. Yet, the truth is that many people walk through life quietly admitting to themselves: I haven’t got a plan. Like it’s really obvious here in Nigeria many youths still have that awkward feeling that they are yet to have a plan.

Not having a plan can feel scary. It may bring uncertainty, doubt, and the pressure of comparison, peer pressure, and depression may come in at this point leading to trying to do some awful things in other to meet up with your friends or age grade. When friends and peers seem to know exactly what they are doing, the person without a plan might feel lost or left behind. Questions begin to surface from parents and friends, What am I supposed to do? Where am I going? Am I wasting time? These thoughts can create anxiety and make the future appear like a nightmare road with no clear direction and plan.

However, not having a plan does not always mean failure or laziness. Sometimes it simply means a person is still discovering themselves. Life is unpredictable and can be cruel sometimes, and even the most carefully crafted plans can change overnight. Many successful people today once found themselves standing at a crossroads without any clear idea of where they were heading. What mattered was not the absence of a plan but the willingness to keep moving forward and making consistency your friend.

For example, someone who hasn’t got a plan may try different jobs, learn new skills, travel to unfamiliar places, or meet people from different backgrounds. Through these experiences, they slowly discover what truly interests them. Instead of following a plan created by others, they begin to shape their own unique journey in life and focus on the plan.

When someone has no plan, life can become a period of exploration. It allows room for learning, mistakes, growth, and unexpected opportunities. Trying different things, new jobs, skills, friendships, or interests, can eventually reveal passions that were previously hidden. In this sense, the absence of a strict plan can open doors that a rigid plan might have closed. And boom here comes the perfect plan to actualize your dreams.

In conclusion, life itself often becomes the greatest teacher. Experiences, both good and bad, gradually shape a person’s direction. One step leads to the other and consistency is the key to success and growth in life. not having a plan does not mean someone is lost forever. It can simply be a stage in life where exploration and self-discovery take place.
