There was a witch named Amara. Everyone knew Amara for her big black hat. It was old, torn, with a bent tip. She had worn it for 100 years.
One day, the hat disappeared. Wind carried it away.
Amara searched everywhere. "My hat!" she shouted. Without her hat, she felt naked... She could not do magic. Or so she thought.
She went to the hat maker in the village. The hat maker was a small girl with bright eyes.
"I need a new hat, exactly like my old one," Amara said.

The girl said, "I don't have old hats. I only make new hats."
Amara was angry. "Then make it old!"
The girl smiled and brought out a new hat. It was not black. It was deep purple, with small stars stitched on it....It shined.
"I don't want this," Amara said. "This is not me."
"Try it," the girl said.
Amara wore the new hat. It felt light. It felt strange. She looked in the mirror and saw someone different....Not the scary old witch, but a witch who looked like night sky.
She tried small magic. She wanted to turn a stone to frog, but instead the stone turned to butterfly. Purple butterfly...🦋
Amara gasped. Her old hat had only let her do dark magic. This new hat was letting her do light magic.
She laughed for the first time in 50 years.....
She paid the girl and walked home.people in the village saw her and did not run.... They waved. Because her new hat did not look scary...🧞
Sometimes we hold on to old hats because they are familiar, not because they are good.... Sometimes we need wind to carry away what we think we need, so we can find what we actually need.
Amara never found her old black hat. And she never looked for it again.
What old hat are you holding that needs to be carried away by wind?
