A Wednesday Walk with Our Students: Finding Beauty and Meaning in Sitio Camalca

Wednesdays at Buhawen Elementary School always feel a bit different, but there’s one Wednesday walk with our students that I’ll never forget. It was a simple, meaningful moment that reminded us teaching is about more than just classroom lessons—it’s also about the experiences we share outside. We set out for Sitio Camalca, Brgy. Buhawen, San Marcelino, Zambales, a place with beautiful views, fresh air, and a peaceful atmosphere that touches the heart.

The morning started with excitement. Our students, smiling and carrying their small bags, were full of energy and curiosity. For many, just going on the walk was already an adventure. We teachers guided them, reminding everyone to stick together, look out for each other, and enjoy the journey. Along the way, there was laughter, stories, and lots of questions from the kids. Every step was filled with real wonder.

Walking through the paths of Sitio Camalca, we felt welcomed by nature. Tall trees lined the way, their leaves moving gently in the breeze. Birds sang, creating a natural music that replaced the usual classroom noise. The cool air carried the smell of grass and earth. It was refreshing and peaceful, something no textbook could truly show.

The view in Sitio Camalca amazed both teachers and students. Hills rolled out in many shades of green, and the mountains stood tall and calm, reminding us of God’s beautiful creation. The scenery seemed endless, inviting us to stop and appreciate the moment. Some students stood quietly, taking it all in, while others pointed out the trees, clouds, and wide open land around us.

This Wednesday walk was more than just a simple trip. It became a chance to learn outside the classroom. We talked with our students about taking care of nature, respecting the world around us, and being grateful for what we have. Our simple talks became special as the children shared their thoughts and what they noticed. Their honest ideas reminded us that learning is best when it connects to real life.

What made the walk even more special was the bond we built along the way. Walking beside our students helped us connect with them more deeply. We listened to their stories, dreams, and even their small worries. In those moments, we were more than teachers; we were mentors, guides, and friends. The trust and comfort that grew during the walk meant a lot to us.

Sitio Camalca also reminded us how nice simple things can be. There were no fancy buildings or modern places to visit, but the place gave us something better: peace, clear minds, and new ideas. Our students saw that happiness does not always come from things you can buy, but from nature, friendship, and time together. We came back to school with tired feet but happy hearts. The students were still smiling, talking about their favorite parts of the walk. Some said they loved the view, others liked walking with their friends, and a few just enjoyed being outside the classroom. Their happiness spread to all of us, and it made us feel thankful.

That Wednesday walk became a reminder of why moments like these are important. With all our schoolwork and routines, it’s good to pause and make memories that help both the mind and heart. For our students, Sitio Camalca was more than just a place; it was a chance to connect, learn, and appreciate what we have. It was a beautiful reminder that sometimes, the best lessons are learned while walking together, surrounded by nature, guided by purpose, and inspired by the simple joy of being present.
