Hoping for new times to smile along the way | [EN/ES]

Hello, Wednesday walkers!

Walking long distances isn't always a voluntary act. The day, the time, the circumstances, or the destination don't really matter. Yet, there is something that leaves a mark on my daily routine: my footprints on the asphalt.

Every day—whether I’m walking to work or heading somewhere else—I try to rediscover, or view from a fresh perspective, surroundings that might seem ordinary or insignificant to others.

So, inspired by the weekly #WednesdayWalk challenge hosted by @tattoodjay—and always starting with a smile—I find myself today right on the Santa Clara Boulevard, suddenly stopping in front of what was, years ago, a go-to shop for many of the city's residents and visitors.

La Época is the name of this establishment; though long past its heyday, it still retains the magic of welcoming passersby who pause before its mirror-clad columns—whether to snap a photo or to adjust their posture, hair, or clothing, rumpled by the passage of Father Time.

For as long as I can remember, it was always a place that sold a wide variety of goods. It underwent changes over the years, yet its core purpose remained the same: selling a diverse range of essential products.

The final phase it went through—and the one that led to its demise—was when the decision was made to sell toys at prices beyond the reach of the vast majority of Cubans.

It has long been closed to the public. All it offers is a sad nod to the world of childhood through the desolate decor of its display windows.

Inside, there is merely a boat evoking dreams of sailing—capturing the fantasy of a child who longs to fly happily, yet remains visible only from behind the lonely glass...

It is my hope that the dream of seeing its doors open to joyful possibilities becomes a reality. In the meantime, I bid you farewell until a new path unfolds—but not without first sending each of you a warm, radiant hug!

¡Hola caminantes de miércoles!

Caminar largas distancias, no siempre es un acto voluntario. Da igual el día, la hora, las circunstancias, el destino. Pero algo sí me marca en la cotidianidad, mis huellas en el asfalto.

Cada día, lo mismo camino al trabajo o a algún otro sitio, intento redescubrir, o mirar con nuevas perspectivas, el entorno que para otros es común o intrascendente.

Es así que, animado por la dinámica semanal de #WednesdayWalk que @tattoodjay nos propone, siempre desde la sonrisa como punto de partida, hoy me descubro en pleno Boulevard de Santa Clara, y me detengo de pronto frente a lo que hace años fue una tienda de referencia y preferencia por muchos residentes y visitantes de la ciudad.

La Época, es el nombre de este establecimiento que hoy se encuentra lejos de sus mejores tiempos de esplendor, pero aún conserva la magia de acoger a transeúntes que se detienen frente a sus columnas, cubiertas por espejos, bien para tirarse alguna que otra a foto, recomponer sus posturas, peinados o sus vestuarios estrujados por el paso del Dios Cronos.

Desde que tengo uso de razón, siempre fue un lugar donde se vendían productos disímiles. Sufrió cambios a lo largo de los años, pero su objeto social era el mismo, vender productos necesarios y diversos.

El último período por el que transitó, y pereció, fue cuando decidieron vender juguetes con precios inalcanzables para la gran mayoría de los cubanos.

Hace tiempo se encuentra cerrada al público. Lo único que ofrece es una triste referencia al mundo infantil con la decoración desoladora de sus vitrinas.

En el interior, apenas un barco evocando sueños de navegar con la fantasía de un niño que anhela volar feliz, pero que solo se muestra tras la soledad de los cristales...

Espero que la esperanza de ver sus puertas abiertas con opciones felices se concrete. Mientras, me voy despidiendo hasta un nuevo camino por descubrir, no sin antes, regalarles a cada uno de ustedes ¡un abrazo de luz!
