All operators of working Hive nodes do receive rewards (in the form of Hive Power), though the Top 20 Hive Witnesses take about 95% of the rewards for Witness nodes. π€π€― Those below the Top 20 struggle with the 5%, where the probability of each node to be selected for creating a block and getting the associated rewards depends of the votes to it (in terms of Hive Power). π€―π€
In other words, for every 21 blocks added on the Hive blockchain, each of the Top 20 Witnesses create their own blocks, then the 21st block is created by a "backup witness" randomly selected from the Top 21 Witnesses downwards. π€π

Yeah, the present system doesn't really give much incentive to actually allocate the time, energy, and resources to set up run a node, since if a node is not in the top 20, it gets peanuts, if even that. π π π β¨ π€
