Short Diary on the Last Workday of the Week | An Interesting Chamber Talk | Alive and Thriving on May 22, 2025 | Extra (HIVE + Health) Titbits

Hi there. How are you? I hope you are doing great. Welcome to my short diary for Thursday, May 22, 2025!

I consulted 28 patients on the last workday of the week for me (Thursday)! Hence, it was an average busy day for me. I got more Bangladeshi patients on Thursday. Some of them came from a far distance to only consult a Bangla talking doctor :D

During the afternoon shift, a sponsor brought a housemaid to me for evaluation. The housemaid arrived in Oman during the first week of January 2025. Since then, she had been in good health and had not visited a doctor. However, the sponsor noticed that both the housemaid's feet and ankles were significantly swollen one week ago. The housemaid did not report any chest pain, kidney issues, urinary problems, or pain in the swollen areas.

Notably, she had not menstruated for the past six months, but neither the housemaid nor the sponsor indicated any signs of pregnancy. While I considered several potential diagnoses and planned for further investigation, I first asked a nurse to examine her abdomen.

The nurse informed me that her abdomen was quite large and hard, which could indicate a baby inside. So, we decided to do a pregnancy test first. To our surprise, she was pregnant! In fact, she had been pregnant for the last six months, and nobody had noticed! She didn't experience any morning sickness or other symptoms—nothing at all! She then acknowledged that she had a boyfriend in her home country and that before flying to Oman, she had a physical relationship with him.

Her fate was sealed; she would be sent back to her country. Who would want a pregnant housemaid, and later, a housemaid with a child?

Health Titbits

Risks of a diabetic

People with diabetes are at a much higher risk of developing various health complications. For instance, they are 25 times more likely to develop blindness compared to non-diabetic individuals. To minimize this risk, controlling blood sugar levels is important. This can be achieved through lifestyle changes, regular physical activity, and medications. In addition to the increased risk of blindness, diabetics also face a 20 times higher risk of lower limb amputation, a 6 times higher risk of stroke, a 5 times higher risk of kidney damage, and a 2-3 times higher risk of heart attack.

It must have been a surprise for everyone involved, especially since she showed no symptoms at all.
It's unfortunate how circumstances like these can drastically change someone's life and career path.
Hopefully, she'll be able to manage everything once she's back in her country.

We hope that too!

Hmm. Things changed for her suddenly. But, no one to blame except for her!

I am guessing from your post that an unwed pregnancy is treated differently than here.

I don't know what happened to her in her country. But, here in Oman, her carrier is over, for now at least!

Thanks for the support!
