A Somewhat Busy day at Work! | Alive and Thriving on May 12, 2025 | Extra (HIVE + Health) Titbits

Hi there. How are you? I hope you are doing great. Welcome to my short diary for Monday, May 12, 2025!

During Monday's morning shift, an above-50 patient living with multiple diseases (HTN, DM, IHD, DLP, etc) came in with the complaints of a discomforting cough for the last 4-5 days. The cough predominantly disturbed him at night while in bed! I examined him and found some abnormalities. His BP was quite high, oxygen saturation was around 90% only, there were abnormal sounds in the base of his lungs, and his blood sugar was quite high. He was already on multiple medicines for all of his conditions. I did an ECG that revealed some abnormalities, but not consistent with any recent acute heart attack! Considering all the facts and findings at hand, it appeared to me that he was most likely suffering from heart failure! He needed other tests, including an Echocardiography! Hence, he needed to consult a cardiologist. Unfortunately, in my town, there was no cardiologist available in any private hospital. I suggested that he go to a nearby city where they could find a cardiologist. They agreed to go there!

Besides the above-mentioned patient, I consulted 38 more patients in my chamber. Hence, it was a somewhat busy time at work. In the visa medical section, I had to examine a good number of people who came for the fitness tests.

At home, I could walk for 20 minutes on the treadmill before lunch. After 10 pm, I could walk for another 20-plus minutes. These 40-plus minutes of treadmill walking helped me reach over 15k steps on Monday!

Health Titbits

Drinking coffee in the morning!

Coffee is one of the most common beverages worldwide! It carries some health benefits. Various studies and research have already revealed that regular & moderate consumption of coffee may be associated with a reduced risk of type 2 DM, cardiovascular diseases, and premature death! However, does the time of consuming coffee (morning, evening, or night) add extra benefits? Maybe! An observational study in the European Heart Journal revealed a link between morning coffee drinking and a lower risk of certain conditions!

The study authors analyzed data on 40,725 adults aged 18 and older, collected from 1999 to 2018. At the end of the analysis, the authors found an interesting association. Those who drank coffee in the morning (from 4 a.m. to 11:59 a.m.) experienced a 16% lower risk of premature death from any cause and a 31% lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease. All-day coffee drinkers didn’t have such risk reductions!

So, if (and when) you drink coffee, try it in the morning for better health benefits! A soft reminder is that it’s just an outcome from the data analysis. It could be a mere association. It’s not an established experimental fact! Still, if you are asking for a time to drink coffee, keep this study in mind. Who knows, maybe you will get the benefits like the study population :)

Coffee is one of the most common beverages worldwide! It carries some health benefits.

Indeed, coffee is incredibly popular around the globe and is known for its potential health advantages.
Formerly they told us that it was extremely harmful, but it seems not.
