I feel like one important secret ingredient of life is self-love.
I mean… There are bad people out there who know they are bad, but still love themselves, so why should another person make me feel bad about myself?
One emerging trend these days is body shaming. And it isn't just bad to me like how other people see it…it's stupid and selfish.
Because let's be honest. More than 90% of people who shame others don't really care about the person they are shaming. Some do it to feel better about themselves, while some do it because of their personal preferences— what is and isn't appealing to them, while some just love being terrible to their fellow human beings.
Or have you noticed how people body shame fat people, but if they were asked to mention the health risk they can't. If you can't mention a health risk, then you should keep shut.
Or is it how it's mostly fat people targeted because it is what they find less appealing the most? When slim people can be too underweight and have as many or more health risks, like weak immunity, weak bones, and so on.
But never have I seen anyone genuinely worry about those like me who are slim. Rather, they would complain about what they want to feast their eyes on.
One thing in life we must learn is to be comfortable and proud of our bodies. Another thing we should keep in mind is that most people who body shame are so stupid they don't even know the meaning of or what body dysmorphia is.
So just imagine beating yourself over a stupid person's word.
In my opinion, the important thing is to try to maintain good health. And I believe with self-love and enlightenment, one can stay healthy.
I don't think body positivity in any way can cause toxicity.
For example, I think people with obesity who hide under the guise of loving themselves aren't actually showing themselves love. That's just a mechanism to try to keep the negativity from outside away.
Instead of showing disgust and dislike for a person because of their body, instead of really caring, they would show love and teach the person self-love and not self-hate.
The only time the image you have of yourself will harm either you or others is when it is detrimental to your health, and when you have people like your children.
It can affect them because how would you care for your children when your health is at risk and you can't care for yourself?
So the best balance is this: if you are okay with your body and don't have any other way you want your body to be for yourself and not for anybody, then just focus on your health.
But in any way you decide to be, you should put your health first before every other thing.
In short, always take care of yourself, stay healthy and love yourself.
