Human evolution is the transformation of humans into different forms by the accumulation of changes over successive generations. It is understood to be a genetic transformation—a means of survival.
Animals, plants, and other living organisms usually transform from a simpler form to a more complex form.
I believe that the major influencer of evolution is the environment.
Just like how we were taught in secondary school about the theory of giraffes having short necks before, but when they needed to feed on tall trees, they grew long necks.
When it comes to humans, I think we are the first proof I have seen that evolution can go both ways. It can make a species complex or stronger to survive, and can make a species simpler and weaker because the features are no longer needed for survival.
Right now, I believe humanity is undergoing evolution, going both ways.
In my life, I have noticed quite a few people with flat canines, and four without any at all. I think maybe it's because humanity doesn't need canines anymore.
Slowly, I am starting to believe science and technology are becoming a major influence on human evolution; one day, it might be more significant to evolution than our environment.
I wonder, will our eyes get more complex and better because of all this blue light we receive from staring at our screens?
Will our lungs get stronger from the constant pollution of the air?
Will our bodies process chemicals better? Will our immunity get stronger? (We doubt our immune system would get stronger, though, because human inventions and science breakthroughs are helping a lot these days, so I bet our immunity won't see any reason to evolve and get stronger.)
Will our systems find a way around sleep for regeneration and healing? Will it give us shorter sleep cycles?
Will we evolve to better survive our changing climate?
I wonder if one day, with the gradual depletion of the ozone layer, we wouldn't need it anymore, and radiation wouldn't be as dangerous as they are right now?
I don't really see any of these positive evolutions, or maybe I just haven't noticed them and haven't even looked close enough. But I do hope we eventually do—we need to.
The only positive human evolution I can see as day is the intellectual and technological evolution. Every day, humans get smarter, so better technology can be invented to make life easier. And I think that could be one of the reasons our physical evolution might be from simple forms to even simpler forms.
Imagine a future where we don't need to walk or make many locomotor movements anymore—everything is just automated.
I think I have watched a cartoon like that before. In the cartoon, technology evolved so much that humans didn't need to move anymore, and eventually, their legs became shorter and shorter as they didn't need to walk anymore.
As for the emotional and social aspect of evolution, I can't tell about this one either. But if understanding mental health better, and better emotional intelligence, is part of our evolutionary trait, then I guess that is a positive one.
But I think we wouldn't undergo much physical evolution because the evolution of technology is greater and has become a part of our lives that can never be removed. If we need to live in water, then technology would do it.
Technology is the only way I see right now to further evolution.
