THE FUTURE IS HYBRID: WHY OFFICES WILL NOT DISAPPEAR__WEEK 236( ED3)

So many people now want remote work. And I understand why. It is very economical.

When you work from home, you don't pay for transport every day. You don't buy food outside. You don't iron corporate clothes every moorning and rush to beat traffic. You just wake up, open your laptop, and start work. For people living in places like Lagos or Enugu where traffic can waste 3 hours of your day, remote work is a big relief oooo.

For companies, it is also cheap. They don't need to rent a big office, buy 100 chairs, pay for light, fuel generator, and clean a big building. They can just have a small office for meetings and let most staff work from home. In the long run, companies that go remote will save millions.

So what effect will this have on the corporate world in the long run?

First, offices will become smaller. Many companies will not need big buildings again. They will keep a small hub where people can come maybe once or twice a week for meetings, and other days everybody works from home. This is what they call hybrid work.

Second, hiring will change. Before, a company in Lagos would only hire people in Lagos. But now with remote work, they can hire someone in Enugu, Jos, or even Ghana. So companies will get more talent, but competition for jobs will also be more tough.

Third, the way they measure work will change. In office, boss sees you sitting down and thinks you are working. Remotely, they cannot see you, so they will only check your result. If you deliver, you are good. If you don't, they know. So people will need to be more disciplined.

Now the big question - if more people work from home, what will happen to jobs that people must leave home to do?

This is where it gets serious.

If people stop going to offices, a lot of other businesses will suffer. The bus drivers, keke drivers, food sellers near offices, business centers that print and photocopy, even landlords who rent out office spaces - all of them will make less money.

For example, in my area, many women cook rice and sell in front of offices. If those offices close and everybody works from home, who will buy their food? Same for barbers near corporate areas, shoe makers, and shop owners. Remote work is good for laptop workers, but it is bad for street hustlers who depend on office workers.

Also, some jobs can never be remote. You cannot be a doctor remotely. You cannot fix a car remotely. You cannot build a house remotely. You cannot barb hair or make clothes completely online. So those jobs will still be there, and they may even become more valuable because less people want to do physical work again.

In my opinion, remote work will not kill the corporate world. It will just change it. The future is not 100% remote or 100% office..... It will be 50/50. Some days at home, some days in office. That way we save moneey and still keep human connecction.

Because truth be told, working from homee every day can be lonelyy and tiring.You need to see people sometimes.
