If you asked me 2 months ago why I wake up every day to work hard, I would have said "money" without thinking.........yeah
It's the honest answer for most of us. Data will finish. NEPA will take light and I need to buy fuel. My Canva Pro wants to expire. So I wake up, I open my laptop, I design. To pay bills. That was my why.
But last month, something shifted.
I finished a romance book cover for a client. It was a Billionaire story - The Billionaire's Promise. She was a new author like me, a new designer. When I sent her the final 3D mockup, she sent a voice note. She was literally almost crying. She said "Oh my God, this is the first time my book feels real. Like someone can actually buy it in a store."
I played that voice note like 15 times that day.
And I realized I was not smiling because of the $20 she paid. $20 cannot even solve half of my problems in this economy. I was smiling because for the first time, my work made someone else's dream feel valid. That feeling was bigger than any alert.
That night I sat down and asked myself again - why do I REALLY wake up?
I wake up because I am tired of being invisible.
Growing up in Anambra, I watched everyone around me say "manage am like that." Take any job, even if it kills your joy, just to pay bills. I don't want to manage my life......👎 I want to BUILD it. I want to wake up one day and say "I built this from my small room, with just my phone, my small laptop that doesn't even have enough battery, and YouTube tutorials at 1AM."
My why is proof.

Proof that a girl with no rich uncle, no connection, no capital, can learn a skill online and turn it into something. Proof that I am not lazy. Proof that I am not what people said I would be when I said I want to do freelancing instead of going to look for office job.
If my why was only money, I would have quit.
I created my Fiverr account on Tuesday. By Thursday I had only 10 impressions and zero clicks.....(sad💔😔) Zero messages. I refreshed that dashboard every 30 minutes. I cried. If it was only about bills, I would have deleted the gig and said "this Fiverr is scam."
But I didn't. I stayed. I redesigned my thumbnail. I asked for help. I kept learning. Why? Because something deeper was holding me there.
I think purpose is not one big light that falls from the sky one day. It's small whys we collect every day.
My why today is to make one author smile with a cover.
My why tomorrow is to get my first order on Fiverr.
My why next year is to teach my younger sister how to design so she will never have to beg for pocket money.
Those small whys are what push me out of bed at 5AM when NEPA has taken light and my room is hot.
So yes, I work hard to pay bills. Bills will always be there. But I REALLY wake up every day because I want to become the woman who did not give up. And one day when someone asks me how I did it, I will show them my first ugly designs, my 10 impressions screenshot, and my laptop that shuts down every time light goes off, and I will say "I kept going. That is my why."
So let me ask you - what is keeping you going this week? Beyond the bills?
