AI IS THE ENEMY? NO, WE ARE.____WEEK 237(ED2)

I saw a video last week of someone I know. It was not her. It was AI. But it looked like her, it sounded like her. And the comment section was full of people laughing.

That day I understood why the world is shouting that AI should be banned.

People are using AI to create fake nude images and fake explicit videos of real people. Girls are being shamed in school, women are being blackmailed, reputations are being destroyed. It is painful and scary. So I understand when people say we need stricter regulations. We really do.

But then I sat down and asked myself one honest question. Is AI really the enemy?

AI is a tool. Just like a knife. A knife can be used to cut meat in the kitchen and feed a family. That same knife can be used to harm someone. Do we ban knives because some people use it to harm? No. We punish the person that used it wrongly.

Same with AI.

AI is helping doctors detect sickness early. It is helping students like me write better and learn faster. It is helping businesses, farmers, even small Hive writers. It is creating jobs and making hard work easier. AI did not wake up one morning and say it wants to create fake nude of someone. A human being sat down, typed a prompt, and generated it.

So the enemy is not AI. The enemy is the lack of discipline and ethics in us.

We have a big problem with how we use technology. When camera phone came, people used it to record people without consent. When Photoshop came, people used it to fake pictures. Now AI has come and some people are doing the same thing but faster.

If we ban AI today, those same people will still find another tool tomorrow to do evil. The problem will not stop until we fix the human.

What should happen instead?

I think we need strong laws. Not to kill AI, but to control how people use it. If you use AI to generate explicit images of a real person without their consent, you should face jail. Platforms should be forced to detect and delete such content fast. AI companies should put watermark and strong filters.

Technology should not suffer because some people lack common sense.

We should not be scared of AI. We should be scared of what humans do with it when there is no consequence.

AI is not the enemy. The way we choose to use it is.

What do you think? Should we regulate AI heavily or should we punish the people misusing it more?

Its really a shame when people misuse opportunities given to them. An adage says when one finger takes just a drop of oil, it will spread to others.

We are in the era when people are not thinking 🤔 of consequences of an action. And this very one is affecting the world 🌍.

People are always scared of what they don't understand and let's not forget there's an elemnt of "protectionism" in some of the more vocal opponents. Artists for example are worried they will be replaced by AI when people like you and I resort to creating our own images through it. The key question is: "I have an image in my head or at least a picture I'd like to have but I'm rubbish at drawing and I certainly don't have the money to pay someone." should you be blocked from creating an impressive piece of work overall simply because a picture wasn't created by a human?

EVERYTHING can be used for evil purposes, it's how we protect ourselves that's important.
