I liked the article. Kind of reminds me of the saying "Pride goes before a fall" (which more or less means proud people don't succeed).
I'm a Pharmacist and have a respected University degree. I've also plunged toilets, shovelled snow, cleaned floors and many other "menial" tasks at work. Why? Because work is work and "not my job" isn't part of the job.
I've also gone out to the fields at harvest time and picked berries with my family. Very hard work for about 10% of my normal pay. Why? Workers were needed, my family was going and I went too.
Even writing on Hive. I could make far more money in a single shift at work than I do writing on Hive. Why do I bother? Because its fun and gives me a little money even if is tiny by Canadian standards.
Being humble and doing whatever job I have set before me cheerfully has never been a wrong decision. I don't care what other people think.
The other half of that is when I see someone working hard whether it is a janitor, serving staff in a restaurant, or even someone sweeping the streets in Indonesia I always think "now there is someone working hard" and think better of them.
Lazy people, regardless of their education, I don't respect.
Hard working people, regardless of their job, I respect.
Well, as long as they are also decent people underneath :)

I witnessed exactly what you mean by "Pride goes before a fall" during this crypto winter. I saw many people power down and leave Hive forever because of it.
Last night, I had some guests at my place, specifically two brothers of a friend. One of them was very interested in business, and I actually gave him your example during our conversation. I mentioned how you have plunged toilets despite your degree. I was making the point that while he wants to do business, he should not be a burden on his parents. If he lacks capital, he should not force his parents for it. Instead, he should find a middle ground by getting a job to raise capital. He should work somewhere that gives him the flexibility to build his business until he can leave the job completely.
I keep your personality traits in mind during my real life mentoring sessions. By now, you probably realize that some Pakistani parents see me as a successful person and want their kids to be like me. They often try to have me as a guest, but I usually host them at my place instead. It is much easier for them to come over, talk, and then leave, as going somewhere else takes too much time. I always try to be extremely realistic with them and give no fake hopes.

However, I would make one small counter point. When I had to leave University because I was too broke to continue. I decided to take a full time sales job. I worked hard at it but something to realize...
... if I stayed there I never would have gotten ahead. If you take a "lesser" job there is no shame in it, but if it eats up too much time you may forget to aim higher.
After two years there I realized that if I didn't go back to University I would never have a house, never find a good wife, and never be able to raise a family.
So... there is actually another side to the argument :) I've lived both sides.
As for not wanting to go out to visit. Yup. I hear you on that one. I don't know what traffic is like there but in Manila (or even Surabaya) going to meet someone costs real money for taxi fare (or bus fare) and takes a considerable amount of time with a fair amount of discomfort.
Having someone over to your house is way way easier :)
