Financial Literacy: An Early Age Experience

Hello and welcome to my blog again ☺️. This is another interesting topic. "Financial Literacy" . This word for a child that grew up with her mother running a small petty trader isn't new or doesn't sound strange.

For me I grasping this knowledge was easy because mommy would most times leave myself and my siblings in her shop.

I will say that this is normal for most families as the business is virtually a source of income for the family..

So for some children like myself and my siblings we got first hand lessons about money management or financial literacy from our childhood. Interestingly the small calculators came very handy for hung or large purchases.

A child finds it's as a thing of Joy to be left in charge of the shop 😄 most times we act like manager and supervisor 😁. This drama can run for a while and when a customer comes to buy items, we try to put up a good performance for them to buy more than what they came for.

In closing the shop we took turns in counting and arranging the money 🤑 is sets of 100, 200,500 and 1000. As the smallest am always left to count the 100 naira notes ☺️. I didn't like counting such them as most times they are very few. But I couldn't complain asi was the youngest of all. Then my mom changed it all and made it a duty for each of us to count on different days, she said it was to help us understand and know how to manage large sums in the future. We took turns in counting and arranging daily and my maths improved I noticed

So in answering to the question How long did it take you before you got a grasp of it? So now, when do you think financial literacy should begin for everyone?
In my humble opinion anyone should begin as a child saying at about 7years old, but in a situation one doesn't grow up with a family business like mine that individual should start learning as a teenager that way they will in turn grow to understand money management and how to control the urge of spending money anyhow or not being accountable to themselves and others.

To the administrative team I salute you all for both topics this week. Weldone peace community members.
