Long gone are the days when my mindset of financial freedom and living like a responsible family man with better source of income revolves around wearing a suit and tie to a bank every morning and working as a banker. Currently, If given the opportunity to work with a bank, i may turn it down. I prefer to own the bank and have other people work for me.
Life is full of miseries. We face many challenges, and we get many wins. We get betrayed and lose good friends, but then, irrespective of how hurt things may turn out to be, we still move regardless of anything. Life is beautiful. Sweet i must say.
Being one agent of socialization with great impact in the lives of many students, school has proven to be an important place where children learn a lot of things. Though schools teach a lot of things, they don't actually teach how to face real world challenges. They don't teach their students skills required to survive this accursed world where the weak is preyed upon and the kind is explored and milked till their kindness gets dried.
I don't see myself using quadratic equations in real life though. I also don't have any need of finding X. Anyways, for this post, in response to hive learners prompt, "Not In School," I will be sharing some important lesson I didn't learn from school.
From my perspective, the only thing school teaches is how to be a loyal 9 to 5 jobber that is totally dependent on peanuts for survival. For some people, this is good, but for me, I don't ever want to feel caged.
There are a lot of things that I didn't learn in school. While in school, our teachers at times talk about getting a decent job after graduation, but one thing they fail to teach us is how to actually manage the pressure that comes from being interviewed.
Interview may sound like a casual thing to people that are used to it now, but when i was starting, I was really tensed in the presence of my interviewer. I had to learn from my mistakes.
Aside from interview, another thing i learnt outside school was how to handle grief. Schools would not teach you this. In fact, they will even add to your depression by demanding tuition fee irrespective of whether or not you are financially bouyant and mentally stable to deal with the fee at that moment. I also learnt how to properly manage grief outside school.
Lastly, another thing i learnt outside school is that unlike the teachings where they say the peaceful, merciful, truth speaking, hard working and kind person always win, life taught me that the ruthless, aggressive, lie telling, smart working and nonchalant person always get what they want. Show them you care and they will step on your feeling. Show kindness and softness and they will piss on your legs and ask what you can do. Work hard, and your strength will be exploited. Life is a good teacher cause' as it teaches you, you learn whether you pay attention or not.
Thank you for reading.
The only thing I know that things that life teaches you can't teach any school because we should understand it ourselves. Even they teach us the same way we don't change our mind untill we experience it. First you learn to be good then you understand that being good isn't always good but later you prefer to be good because life gives you what you give. It is your choice being agressive or kind but feeling good doesn't come from veing agressive.
Life will teach you, unteach you and also reteach you. What you think is right in one persons sight may be despised in another persons sight. All we need to do is to be as good as we can be to those who truly deserves our goodness
That is a great mindset brother, I keep telling my friends at home in Lagos, that if I can't find a job that can pay me 1M monthly, with a lot of other benefits, I won't accept it. A person with a business sense will pick business over a 9:6 job any day and time.
Broo.. Anywhere, anytime, i pick business over 9 to 5 job. Why should i make money for someone when i can get other people to make money for me?? i always have that business mindset and even though its a tough one, i prefer to go through that path
The greatest school is the school of life because it starts with the onset of life. No other school can teach us the lessons of life our job is just to be kind
Kindness and understanding each other is a very important part of life.
Exactly!👍🏼
Sadly, this is the hard truth about life, it is not about all that is written in our textbooks.
Swears... Most times we have to learn it the hard way
thank you
