Broken Promises. The Manipulator Got Manipulated.

One thing most people don't really understand is that a promise encompasses a mere spoken word. There is power in promises. The power to ignite hope in another persons heart, there is also the power to make other people have faith in the person that said the promise. This is the major reason why people feel disappointed when a promise is broken.

One question i do ask people is, is there a justifiable reason when you promise somebody something, and they knowingly or unknowingly commit something that cause you to not keep to your promise? Welp, in this post, i will share a story of a promise I made. I did not fulfill that promise due to one reason. Also, i will share my perspective on weather or not it is justifiable to not fulfill ones promise. Here goes.....

One thing i hardly do is to make promises because i know that i will love to fulfill that promise no matter what. Even if it cost me a huge deal, so long as i have not fulfilled that promise, i will never have peace of mind. I always keep to promises. However, there is one time when I did not keep to my promise due to something that happened.

I've actually shared a similar story but not in the same context i'm sharing it now.

I used to love the manipulative games of politics. Dirty game as they call it, political games gave me a purpose as i rose in the ranks. I was loving it. I didnt actually love the power and fame that came with it, but what i loved was the fact that i could manipulate other politics-loving people into doing what i want. I could predict their moves and do things that will favor me. I saw it like a chess board. I was the one playing, but i was not a piece in the game.

When it was my turn to become the president, i got the support of about 70% of the entire school. They always report my opponent's moves to me. When he tried to bribe them, or spoil my name within their midst, they will come to me and tell me every single thing as it was. Everything was going well as i planned but i allowed the little success get into my head. I didn't want the power and fame, but i had it. However, instead of to keep being the critical thinker and the player i was, i allowed these things get into my head. To my greatest surprise, i found myself as a pawn in my own chess board.

My opponent saw that he stood no chance against me, so, he presented me with a Trojan horse. He proposed a deal - I should become the Senate President while he becomes the Main President. I saw no harm in it. In my mind, i would still maintain control, not knowing that this guy had other plans. He made me promise. After thinking of it, i decided to agree with him.

Based on our deal, i secretly campaigned for him even though as the senate president, i'm was not allowed to campaign for him. I held my own side of the deal, and i did more than what i was supposed to do. I made him the president. I thought things will be okay, but to my greatest surprise, after I inaugurated him, that same day he called for a meeting and asked me and my other senators to step down.

We dragged the matter for a long time until our HOD asked me to be the electoral commission which i refused. We had a deal but due to the fact that it was not on pen and paper, nobody wanted to know wether or not we had a deal. Welp, i dissolved the senate, but i was not done yet. I made sure his government was also dissolved. He didn't rule for the complete time frame he was supposed to rule.

During these times when I used people to disturb his government, he will always come to beg me. He even proposed other deals and made me promise, but then, after promising him that i will stop dividing his government, i went head to do what was on my mine until he was dissolved. Even, i wanted him to pay all the money he embezzled but i took pity because at this time, most people were pleading on his behalf. I even heard that he almost unalive himself because of how badly people began to treat him.

So now, the question of whether or not i did the right thing by going back on my promise. Welp, to the best of my knowledge, even though he went back at his words at first, i didn't do the right thing by going back on my promise. True, i was really annoyed that he breeched our agreement, but then, i should have told him my mind right there instead of breaking my promises.

Thank you for reading.
