Growing up as a child, I was strictly monitored by my parents. Most of the times, when mom went out to work, she will lock my siblings and I indoors, unless we had to go to school or any special place.
Mom always hammered on the importance of telling the truth no matter how bad the situation tends to be. In her words, "even if they want to cut of your neck, tell the truth and the truth shall set you free." Well guess what? The truth hardly set me free when i did something bad like stealing meat from the pot and admitting that i was the culprit. At times, telling the truth actually saved me from getting whooped. Anyways......
In our world today, the truth is being manipulated to fit a persons story or to serve a persons interest. Some times, in other to get to a position, Lies and manipulation spiced with a little corruption (bribery) is needed.
In the my field of practice, we face many challenges. One of the many challenges is saying the truth to a patient if they are not getting any better.
Lets say a patient is very sick, say a kid that has cancer or an adult suffering from a very chronic disease. You as the care giver, you have full knowledge that the patient will not make it out alive but nonetheless, you are still trying your best to make sure that they fight to the end.
If this patient and/or their relative ask you with a pitiful face, Nurse, I'm i going to be fine? Will I survive this? what will your response be? Are you going to lie by responding with a "Yes" in other to protect the mental health of the patient and their relative or will you say the truth as it is, and put them in distress? Or will you tell them that you are trying your best?
Welp, if i'm the nurse there, i will let the patient know their health state, and give them options on how to proceed while helping the patient pass through the stages of grief, and also, assist the relative in any way possible.
No matter what, in such situation, i believe in telling the truth. Yes, the truth can be very heart breaking, but then, it will help the patient prepare and accept their fate, and also, help the relative to prepare to lose the patient.
To me, there is actually no need to tell a lie in this situation. However, there are times when telling a lie is required. Lets say when somebody is about to be killed, and only the lie will save that person. Or lets say when a person is about to get a fortune or something that is really important to them, and the only thing stopping them from getting that fortune is for me to tell a lie.
A lie is a lie, and it can not be changed or manipulated to become truth however, in some cases, it is necessary to tell a lie, but that doesn't mean that the lie is justified,
Thank you for reading.
Yeah, a lie is a lie, it's no other name. Thanks for sharing
In my little experience in life, It's just necessary sometimes to tell a lie. I believe if it's not for a selfish reason, I don't have an issue with it.
Just pray the truth is not found out in the bid of saving someone from death, you'd be adding more problems 😀😀😀
As for the second paragraph, a lot of us have lied denying ever touching meat from the pot and in such a case, avoiding telling lies would be us not stealing. Hahaha 😀 but we were kids then and even if our parents would promise not to punish us if we say the truth, sometimes the truth actually saves and other times, it does not.
It takes courage to telling the truth and I admire your commitment to being real, even when it's hard.
