Art Of War: History Repeat Itself

Studying the past is one of the best ways to learn. The past is rich with lots of knowledge which is open to everyone to learn from. Some are wise enough to learn from history, while some don't understand the fact that they need to learn from the past. Again, there are some people that know the importance of learning from historical actions but to them, ignorance is bliss.

One way to grow without making too many mistakes is to understand historic patterns of life. Understanding peoples previous actions as well as the rewards and repercussions to those actions can be very helpful in surfing the rough waves of life.

Interestingly, some people have elderly people to guide them by sharing their own experience with them, but some people are not as lucky, thus, the reason for the saying - "He who has nobody to guide them should listen attentively when another person is being guided." ~ Unknown.

When talking about the history of man, wars and conflicts are a major emphasis as it has shaped the human history, and has brought about the creation of many deadly weapons that are harmful to man and the environments.

World war 1 and 2 was catastrophic. Millions died as a result of the war. Famine, disease and infirmity became the order of the day as lands were constantly invaded, pushing civilians to live in unfavourable environments.

In my country, one war stood out. This is the Biafran war. Nigeria is made up of three major ethnic groups, Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa. the biafran war started in 1967 and ended in 1970. Basically, the war came because the Igbo's refused to remain part of Nigeria> The wanted to be a country of their own, Biafra.

The war lasted for about three years leaving many deaths at its wake. Malnutrition ruled Igbo lands during these times as their farms were bombed to hinder food production and external food aid were intercepted and channels blocked. It was a very bad time. Igbo youths were taken to defend their lands, while the Nigerian army kept pressing on.

Though the war ended many years ago, it don't look like Igbos gave up their dreams of independence. Through legal actions, the fight continued with Sir Nnamdi Kalu who kept on fighting for his people to get a country of their own. Due to this, he was arrested and imprisoned, but even while he was still in prison, he refused to back down. The last time i checked the news, he was in court.

In the eastern part of Nigeria, we currently have sit at home days as a result of all these things. During these days, no body is allowed to go out. You are expected to get every supply you need before that day. No shops are open, and no vehicle are to be seen on the road. If somebody goes out, anything that happens to them is their own doing.

Early this year, some soldiers were brutally killed in the east. Soldiers who were in strategic checkpoints. Security became tight as the hunt for the perpetrators was intense.

History may repeat itself. There could be another war if Biafra is not allowed to be a country of its own. I think the only way to quite down all these things is to allow Biafra be a country as the wish.

The past really offers valuable lessons which we tend to ignore...thereby allowing repetition of history.

thanks for sharing.

If this stuff repeats itself, it will be very catastrophic.

It is usually a difficult and blood-soaked road. That was the case here in the former Yugoslavia.
