When I started studying for my technical high school diploma in Business Administration, I had a rather demanding Cabinet professor in my first year. He always reminded us of one of the fundamental principles of Administration, which states:
"A place for everything, and everything in its place."
At first glance, it seems like an obvious principle, but it is so simple and powerful that it can be justified by the sheer amount of time most people spend looking for their keys!
Regarding the prompt proposed for the #HiveLearners community in its #w167e1 edition, I believe the following rule or principle should be applied to children and adolescents:
"An age for everything, and everything at its proper age."
That is what I believe regarding the use and possession of smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
Modern parenting makes many mistakes in the pursuit of their children's well-being. I believe in the good intentions of most parents, but I also see, in quite a few cases, parents overwhelmed by the attention that children and adolescents require. To cope, they prefer to entertain and occupy them by giving them access to—and even ownership of—a smartphone from a very young age.
This wouldn’t be such a problem if there were rules and safety measures regarding the use of these devices.
However, the reality is that many parents’ lack of knowledge leads them to give their children smartphones and computers with internet access, without any parental controls to block inappropriate content or regulate their usage.
For decades, the problem of online sexual predators has existed, and unfortunately, in many cases, it has resulted in real-life crimes—ranging from abductions and assaults to, in extreme situations, murder.
Even without reaching such tragic extremes, the vast majority of children and adolescents with access to smart devices and the internet have been approached by adults trying to maintain virtual relationships that fulfill their inappropriate sexual desires.
If I myself, who didn’t access the internet until after I turned 20, have received unsolicited inappropriate photos in chat rooms dozens of times—or explicit sexual proposals—what makes us think that children would be magically protected from this, when they are prime targets for many predators?
This is why I firmly believe that no one under 18 should have exclusive use of a smart device connected to the internet. I am not saying they should not have access to these devices, only that they should only be available in common areas during designated hours.
If you believe your children need a phone for emergencies, I agree—but it should be one that only works for calls, meaning a mobile phone without internet.
You might assume that I am excessively paranoid and strict because I do not have children of my own. But let me remind you that it is far better to learn from the experiences of others than to spend years in therapy, regretting the belief that "this won’t happen to my children."*

I share your view on the importance of setting clear rules and limits for the age-appropriate use of smart devices by children and teenagers.
Thanks, it's very important set rules and supervising the children all the time! Thanks for your support ☺️🙏
