But we must distinguish between a need and a desire. Animals move based on needs, but human beings are dominated by their desires.

This is how zoos were created to exhibit animals of all species for the simple nihilistic pleasure of knowing that we can lord over other living beings.

Not content with confining them in small spaces as zoos usually are, circuses were also created where animals were domesticated through torture for people's entertainment.

It is even sadder to admit that there are people who keep wild animals in captivity, many of them endangered, as if they were domestic pets, despite the suffering that life under these conditions causes them.

The black market for exotic fauna moves hundreds of millions each year and causes the death of thousands of animals that cannot survive the deplorable conditions in which they are smuggled.

Human beings who are so poor that they only have money spend enormous sums of money to acquire exotic species to feed their fragile egos.

While some animals have been domesticated from wild and ferocious animals, as in the case of the ancestors of the modern dog, this does not occur in other cases, as it is a process that takes thousands of years.

No conformes con recluirlos en pequeños espacios como suelen ser los zoológicos, también se crearon circos en los que a fuerza de tortura se domesticaban animales para diversión de las personas.

Es más triste admitir que hay personas que tienen en cautiverio animales salvajes, muchos en peligro de extinción, como si fueran mascotas domésticas, a pesar del sufrimiento que la vida en estas condiciones les produce.

El mercado negro de fauna exótica mueve cientos de millones cada año, y ocasiona la muerte de miles de animales que no logran superar las condiciones deplorables en las que se contrabandean.

Seres humanos que son tan pobres que solo tienen dinero gastan enormes sumas de dinero para conseguir especies exóticas para alimentar sus frágiles egos.

Si bien algunos animales han sido domesticados a partir de animales salvajes y feroces como el caso de los antepasados del perro moderno, eso no ocurre en el resto de casos, ya que es un proceso que tarda miles de años.

Por eso los gobiernos deberían endurecer las leyes y aplicar penas de prisión para cualquier persona que participe en el tráfico, comercio o tenencia de animales silvestres. Una multa no es suficiente, considerando que se trata de seres vivientes con sentimientos y para algunos pagar una multa es como pagar una entrada al cine.

También es importante que hayan campañas de educación masivas para que las personas tomen conciencia de que los animales silvestres no son mascotas, e incluso, representan un riesgo potencial para sus dueños y demás personas.

Al final de cuentas, si lo que necesitan es una mascota que les hagan compañía, en las calles o refugios de animales encontrarán perros y gatos abandonados que son capaces de brindar tal cantidad de amor y gratitud que llenarán por siempre el vacío de sus vidas.

Por eso les ruego que nunca compren mascotas, que es otro negocio en el que el sufrimiento animal es la norma, en la que son explotados, y muchos de ellos desgraciadamente terminan en las calles cuando ya no son tan bonitos como cuando eran cachorros.

Rompamos el círculo y adoptemos responsablemente, los refugios están llenos de mascotas que esperan poder dar amor.
