Investing in Happiness

Greetings friends of this dear community, I hope you are having a prosperous and blessed year 2026. In this first participation of the year, at least on my part, I join the prompt after a brief analysis.

Although my work situation as a self-employed person in a small business in a small rural town-village does not allow me to make large expenses, I have had one that until not long ago I considered a high and unnecessary expense.

Let me tell you... In Paraguay, internet service is relatively expensive, with a 1GB package that lasts 24 hours costing around 1.20 or 1.30 American dollars, which, let's say, doesn't last very long, at least in my case.

Well, at home we only had analog televisions, so it wouldn't be worth hiring a wi-fi service considering that we couldn't even watch streaming movies, which is why I preferred to buy internet cards from a cheap but quite unstable provider that used to have days when there was no service, but since 90% of the time there was signal, the rest of the days could be stoically endured.

But things changed in the middle of the year when my sister @myriam-clotilde gave my parents a new television, which although it wasn't Smart, did have ports to connect a TV Stick and thus make it "intelligent."

So, taking advantage of one of my visits to Asunción, I bought one of those little devices and then upon returning I contracted a wi-fi internet plan. Honestly, it's a relatively expensive expense, almost a luxury, but it's worth every cent for the moments of joy it produces in my parents.

My mom enjoys her favorite retro series that make her laugh and enjoy a lot, and my dad enjoys the zombie and criminology series that he likes so much.

Just for the laughter it generates in my mom when she watches "I Dream of Jeannie" or "Bewitched," I already consider that expense as an investment.

In my case, I must also admit that having this service, so basic for many, a luxury for me, has been rewarding. I think I've watched more movies in the last few months than in all previous years.

The only bad thing about this is that just now that I have unlimited internet, I don't have a computer to make better use of this service, but I am confident that this year we will do much better in the business and I will be able to buy myself a notebook.

For many, it will seem absurd or pathetic and even worthy of pity that this has been the biggest expense I've had, but for me, simple living has become the norm, and I could even say that I've become a minimalist!

There are really few things I would like to buy that are really expensive, because I was never a person attached to brands or fashions, and I hope to continue like this, although if I had a stroke of luck and won the lottery, that would possibly change, and I would buy myself a motorhome to fulfill the dream of getting to know, together with my parents, a little more of this vast world and all the beauties in it.

That's why, friends, it's important to recognize that what produces joy and happiness in us could never be considered costly or expensive, considering its benefits, and that simple and basic things can also be "dear" to our affections and emotions because of the value they generate for us.

Invertir en felicidad

Saludos amigos de esta querida comunidad, espero estén teniendo un próspero y bendecido año 2026. En esta primera participación del año al menos de mi parte me uno a la consigna tras un breve análisis.

Si bien debido a mi situación laboral de autoempleada en un pequeño negocio en una pequeña ciudad-aldea rural no me permite realizar grandes gastos, sí he tenido uno que hasta no hacía mucho tiempo atrás consideraba un gasto elevado e innecesario.

Les cuento... En Paraguay es relativamente costoso el servicio de internet, llegando a costar un paquete de 1GB que dura 24 horas alrededor de 1,20 o 1,30 dólares americanos que además digamos que no dura demasiado, al menos en mi caso.

Pues bien, en casa solo habían televisores analógicos, por lo que no valdría la pena contratar un servicio de wi-fi considerando que no podriamos siquiera ver películas en Streaming por eso yo prefería comprar tarjetas de internet de un proveedor barato pero bastante inestable que solía tener días en los que no había servicio, pero como en el 90% del tiempo había señal se podía soportar estoicamente el resto de días.

Pero las cosas cambiaron a mediados de año cuando mi hermana @myriam-clotilde les regaló a mis padres una televisión nueva, que aunque no era Smart, si disponía de puertos para conectar un Stick Tv y así volverlo "inteligente".

Así fue que aprovechando una de mis visitas a Asunción compré uno de esos aparatitos y luego al volver contraté un plan de internet wi-fi. Sinceramente es un gasto relativamente costoso, casi un lujo, pero vale cada centavo por los momentos de alegría que produce en mis padres.

Mi mamá disfruta de sus series retro favoritas que la hacen reír y disfrutar un montón, y mi papá disfruta de las series de zombies y las de criminología que tanto le gustan.

Sólo por las risas que le genera a mi mamá cuando mira "Mi bella genio" o "Hechizada" ya considero ese gasto como una inversión.

En mi caso, también debo admitir que tener este servicio tan básico para muchos, un lujo para mí, ha sido gratificante. Creo que he visto más películas en los últimos meses que en todos los años anteriores.

Lo único malo de esto es que justo ahora que tengo internet sin límites, no tengo computadora para hacer un mejor uso de este servicio, pero tengo confianza en que este año nos irá mucho mejor en el negocio y podré comprarme una notebook.

Para muchos resultará absurdo o patético y hasta digno de lástima que este haya sido el mayor gasto que he tenido, pero para mi la vida sencilla se ha vuelto la norma, y hasta podría decirse que me he vuelto minimalista!

Realmente hay pocas cosas que me gustarían comprar que sean realmente costosas, porque nunca fui una persona apegada a marcas o modas, y espero seguir así, aunque si tuviera un golpe de suerte y me ganase la lotería posiblemente eso cambie, y me compre un motorhome para cumplir el sueño de conocer junto a mis padres un poco más de este vasto mundo y todas las bellezas que hay en él.

Por eso amigos, es importante reconocer que lo que nos produce alegría y felicidad nunca podría considerarse costoso o caro, considerando sus beneficios y que también las cosas sencillas y simples pueden ser "caras" a nuestros afectos y emociones por el valor que nos generan.
