Temptation On The Plate

Some people struggle to live by decisions they make, while it comes off easily for others. What feels extremely difficult and impossible for one person may come naturally for another. For example, battling addiction is complex and difficult. While it takes months for some people to win the battle against certain decisions, it takes years for others to win that same battle. This brings me to today’s Hive Learners’ prompt. The topic is NO MORE MEAT. If you were banned from eating meat for the rest of your life how would you cope? What makes this question more interesting is that the only person banned from eating meat in the entire world is you. Just you! It can't be tricky to watch your friends doing a particular thing while you are restricted to do it.

HOW WOULD I COPE?

First off, although I'm picky about the kind of food I eat, I enjoy eating meat. I've tried different kinds of meat, and some were okay while others made me regret trying them in the first place. I enjoy eating meat, but I'm not obsessed with it. I'm the stark opposite of my brother who adds meat to almost everything he eats - soups, stews, noodles; literally anything that makes sense.

So, how would I cope if I were banned from eating meat for the rest of my life?

It wouldn't affect me that much because there will always be alternatives. They might not be as good and tasty as meat, but still better than nothing. I'm pretty certain I would survive. Throughout my years in university, I barely had meat. I schooled in a place where things are very expensive. Not only that, they're also not good. The first time I went to the market to get meat, the seller sold me something that made me sick. So, I vowed to just totally leave meat and eat eggs. For the months when I was in school, I ate varieties of fish - fried fish, smoked fish, boiled fish. The fried fish was my favorite. It was always my go-to source of protein. There was this woman close to my hostel who sold very good fried fish. I'd use it to prepare rice, stew, soups, and sometimes I ate it just alone.

In simple words, if I were banned from eating meat for the rest of my life, I would resort to eating other protein sources and it wouldn't be very difficult for me.

WATCHING MOUTHS ROLL

While I wouldn't have a problem with the ban, the only factor that might make it a little difficult is if I'm the only one in the entire world facing this ban. This means that my friends would be eating meat and those guys can do crazy things to tempt me. If they're aware of this ban, they'll definitely make intentional decisions to make sure I break that rule. They'd do crazy things. However, if they're not aware, then it's a totally different game.
