Jokes are for entertainment. It's not necessary to be bound by reality. If you are bounding jokes with reality all the time, it means you think about jokes carefully, and it means you are serious even in the time of jokes. How can you say the person is not so serious?

Because I know a lot of people like that, they are super funny yet rarely lies when they crack jokes. But I get what you mean, jokes are for entertainment.
