Life is risk, and not taking risks is the most terrible risk one can think of. I have spent over three decades in this world and counting, and I have discovered that on a daily basis one just has to do something; if not, he or she may end up in a particular position, and that will be so dangerous. I know of people who took some risk of investment and lost huge amounts of money, and because of that, when you bring a genuine opportunity, they refuse to join in because of the past experience....
I am one person who doesn't get so hurt when I try a thing and it fails; this is to say I try to give a chance to things just to make sure that I am not staying idle. Due to the way the prices of things went so high two years back, I made up my mind to invest in grains so my family and I will have something to eat, and the hike in price won't catch up with us. Ok, entering this year, the cost of things started to crash down. To a good extent I was not so happy, but on second thought I felt happy because I have overheard people who lament over the prices, and many people go to bed daily without eating.
A few weeks back, my husband told me of a woman whose area of specialty was in buying and selling food crops, so I sold the maize and decided to invest in beans. She told me the cost of the beans, and I agreed to buy a bag from her. Little did I know that the price she is selling is the same thing as what is sold here. After the goods arrived, I decided to move them to another location where I could sell them off immediately. The unbelievable happened: after it was measured, the quantity was less than what I expected. On that note, I called them to return it immediately, and I sent it back to the woman.
She confirmed what I said and told me to come collect it back so they can complete it. On that note, I refused and requested a refund because I was already at a loss. This time I learned some bitter lessons that surely will inform my decision next time, as I am not ready to give up. There are times when we feel that what we buy from a distant place will be cheaper, but at the end it is the same price as if we get it from our present location. My resolution is never to travel so far to buy grains because of the failures I experienced last year and a few weeks back.
Life happens to anyone, and the solution to life challenges is not to give up in the face of challenges but to sit and restrategize and know the better way to take. I also learned to value what I have around me because they may be better than what I'm looking for at a distance. This is my entry to the Hive Learners Contest Week 170, Edition Two.
That’s it. Imagine what you went to get in sokoto is right in your pants pocket like Yoruba do say.
Life itself is risk on its own. We just have to try as much to be calculative when taking them.
My dear ooo, that's so true
