The Delicate Balance of Population Control

People always say “The more the population, the more man power a country has” but they fail to understand that a country that’s not working properly in the sense of productivity and creating jobs, where do you think all that man power would go into?

Most of them would go into all sort of crime crippling the economy and peace of that country.

Hello amazing people of hive and the hivelearners community, my name is fashtioluwa and today we would be discussing another amazing topic which is about the population of a country, how it affects the economy of the country either positively or negatively, also how the government can help in controlling the population. Let’s dive in.

As the global population continues to skyrocket, governments around the world are battling it with different population growth policies. Nigeria my country has one of the highest number of population in Africa, if there was a policy for birth country, I doubt anyone is following such rules because there are people still having 6 to 7 children and they are not ready to stop even when they don’t have the financial strength to care for this children. The question remains: should governments provide incentives to encourage families to have only a certain number of children?

My answer is, YES. The prosperity and problem of every country comes with the number of people living in that country and how the government is able to control and manage the population.

Nigeria's population policy aims to reduce fertility rates from an average of 6 children per family to 4.

This is good but is the government ready to support every child from each family. Yes, the government are doing their best but to think their best is that much. I know they can do more but we have a lot of greedy people in power who are not ready to do what they are meant to do which boils down to the citizens thinking for themselves. “Can I afford to raise 3 kids” if the answer is no, then stop at two. Make their life the best so you can also live the best life.

To achieve population control, governments can offer various incentives like

• Financial Incentives
• Education and Awareness
• Economic Benefits
• ⁠Free child birth to a certain number
• ⁠and many more

For a person who is willing to enjoy this benefits, a certain degree of rules must be followed. Many people are always happy when they are getting free things but many times people always mess things up.

Will this be a good thing for the population?

I have always believed in birth control and I hate to see kids on the street begging for arms and doing all sorts of illegal things like they don’t have parent. Many state in Nigeria is populated with children running around during school hours like they have no care in the world and all this could have been avoided if some policies are put in place.

If a policies like having 3 kids and making sure they have a certain level of education can be upheld, this is have a good effect in the country during the long run. The effect may not be immediately but over time a lot of things will change and children who grew up to be a criminal will reduce in number.
