Words once spoken; do they define us forever?

(edited)

I'm pleased to share my view on the subject for this edition. The theme focuses on should a person pay for a past thing? It could be thought or any statement in the past. I don't think it will be nice but there should be a balance due to the following reasons I am about to share.

picture is mine

There are reasons that makes some people behave the way they do while there are some that suffer it as a result of statement or words they said in the past. I'm not trying to say that people should be completely excused or exempted from their past actions even though they repent. There are certain characters or behaviors that people have that could hurt them or be a stumbling block to their life advancement. It could be a mere words or a controversial thing. What keeps resonating in my heart is this, could it be that such statement in the past was said in ignorance? Could it be because of one pressure or the other? No matter what the reasons could be, there are past that can keep hurting a man.

I know of certain individuals that made some statements against other people when they weren't in such positions. They criticized the person on power as if given opportunity they would do it better. He wrote lots of negative comments and it was documented. When opportunity opens, he suddenly became a leader in a highly placed position. Hmmmmm those things he criticized has turned to be the
exact thing he is doing presently. Infact he is even doing worse. Hmmmmm in this case should one just forgive him? Or allow him to pay for looking down on others.

In order sense, we shouldn't just judge people by their past since they have turned to become better persons now. Judging one by the past may not allow one to see the goodness and the value that the transformed individual is offering now. As humans, we all have our previous lifestyles but now that one has grown I think is better to focus on the person's current position of life. As we grow, we become more and more better therefore the past shouldn't be considered as a yardstick to deal with an individual.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the question of whether a person should pay for their past actions or statements cannot be answered with a simple yes or no. It requires wisdom, balance, and discernment. While it is important not to excuse harmful behavior entirely, it is equally important not to imprison individuals in their past when they have genuinely changed.

The past should serve as a lesson, not a life sentence. Accountability should exist, but it should be fair and constructive rather than destructive. When there is evidence of true growth, humility, and transformation, society should be willing to acknowledge and embrace that change.

At the same time, individuals must understand that their words and actions carry weight, and growth does not erase responsibility. Where harm has been done, there should be acknowledgment and, if possible, reconciliation.

Thanks so much for reading through my entry.
