The balance between Social media and school.

What brought a lot of revolution across virtually all spheres of life is the technological advancement. This has a clear edge over the traditional means of things. Initially I kept wondering why don't we maintain the orthodox way of doing things but the advent of technology has left an imprint of things that can't be erased with ease.

Everything under the earth is a testament of one innovation or the other wich has brought lots of transformation to human kind. There is no section that has no taste of modern technology.

Social Media has really done a lot. Its said that when a purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable. This is what happened in the present usage of social media. Can you imagine a child of 5years given a car key to drive? What would he do with it? Does he even know whether its a car key???many don't know what and how to use social media. It has been abuse however that doesn't mean there are not valid significance we can consider.
I would like to discuss some of the benefits of social media and how it relates to school.
If it's added as a course in school today, it would really turn things around and promote good educational growth.

Merits of social media on school.

• It will enhance learning. Many don't know that social handles can do lots of mark in educational sector. Presently lots of webinar, talkshows etc are perfectly done on social media with ease. This has real helped to curb some unnecessary expenses that would have affected the parents and school directly or indirectly. In modern day learning, social media is a great enhancer. My kids of recently, i got some educational aids from the social media that they could use. Its been effective because i could see the transformation in their lives. On countless times i have been involved in learning many things on WhatsApp. If this is introduced in school, it would reduce the stress on the teacher. Some assignments can be done and submitted on social media.

• Social Media has improved the means of communication. My second daughter learnt how to talk via the social media. I played some videos for her and went through some inbuilt sites to watch few things.

• Social Media will provide vast opportunity for the students and school access lots of resources that would cause a quantum leap to what they do. There are lots of information embedded in the social media handle today. For instance what WhatsApp can do for an individual is beyond imagination. You can even create page where people can follow. The AI and other enhancers has helped to make information at the finger tips pf people.

• Social media would help to cover more students than the normal conventional way of doing things. Wide range of things are covered via this platform which if a student is guided would improve his or her cognitive domains. Like most topics one of my eldest son doesn't know were covered via social media.

Its said that too much of everything is bad. Whatever you would do without guidance may affect the output. Some of the demerit of social media that could affect school negatively are;

• Distraction. The Social media can be a means of distraction if not properly managed. Last year i had to be hard on my son because he wanted to take things for granted because i gave him phone to use. He delve into some sites and downloaded games. Therefore there should be a ban and restrictions to the use of phones.
• Fraudulent or cyber crime can increase once social media is accepted in higher schools.
• Social media could have a negative effects on somebody's health as well. It could lead to addiction which if not guided could resort to depression or obsession.

Conclusion;

Social Media introduction to school could cause great transformation but it should be moderated so that the students won't be distracted.
