Life without eating meat is it a possible mission?

Is life without meat a possible mission? My answer is yes, and I mean that clearly and confidently. When I first read the theme for this second edition, I smiled because it immediately caught my attention. I could not resist thinking deeply about it. I imagined a situation where I would say no to meat for the rest of my life, while people around me continued to eat meat freely. Everyone else could enjoy it, but for me it would be completely off-limits. At first, this idea may sound strange, unbelievable, or even unbearable. However, when I look closely at my own life and experiences, I realize that it is not only possible, but also realistic.

Perhaps the real question we should ask ourselves is not whether life without meat is possible, but how often do we actually eat meat? Growing up, I had the privilege of eating meat regularly while living with my parents. At that time, the Nigerian government system worked better in terms of paying salaries and taking care of workers’ welfare. Money circulated more freely, and families could afford certain comforts without too much stress. People could buy food, including meat, without thinking too hard about the cost. Life felt easier, and many households could eat what they wanted at their discretion.

Today, the situation is very different. The economic reality has changed, and many families are struggling to keep up with basic needs. Meat is no longer as easily accessible as it once was for many people. We are now in a festive period, a time when it is generally assumed that everyone is preparing special and delicious meals for their families. There is pressure to cook something impressive, something that looks rich and abundant. But for some years now, I have been thinking differently. I have chosen to live within my means instead of trying to create an image I cannot sustain. I no longer feel the need to impress anyone with what I eat.

Before going further, I sometimes wonder what exactly is meant by “meat” in this discussion. Is it beef, pork, goat meat, or chicken? No matter the type, meat is still meat. For me, the specific kind does not really matter. What matters is whether it is truly essential to my life.

If I am not mistaken, I have gone for several months without eating meat. Surprisingly, I did not feel deprived or unhappy. My preferred source of protein has always been fish. Compared to other types of meat, fish appeals to me more. If one day I were told that meat was completely banned all over the world, I would simply focus on eating fish 🐠🐟. I honestly believe I would not be deeply disturbed by such a decision. I know I can live without meat.

Let me share a short experience to explain this better. One day, a friend and I walked into a restaurant and ordered food. When the meal was served, it came with large pieces of meat. I calmly rejected the meat and chose to eat only the rest of the food. My friend was shocked and surprised by my decision. He could not understand why I would turn down meat that looked so good. I explained to him that meat has never been a problem or a struggle for me. I am simply not a fan of it. Fish has always been my preference.

For many other people, however, being banned from eating meat would be a serious challenge. Some would struggle with temptation, especially when they see others enjoying it. They might find themselves salivating and feeling uncomfortable. Watching others eat meat without joining them could be very difficult. This shows that individual differences play a big role. What is hard for one person may be easy for another.

In conclusion, life without meat is possible, but it depends on personal choices, preferences, and mindset. What truly matters is understanding yourself and living in a way that suits your reality.

Compliment of the season.

Thanks.

I agree with you. It's possible. For someone who doesn't eat meat regularly, there's the possibility of going without meat. And I tend to prefer fish as well. It's a better option for me if you ask.

Since you calmly rejected meat, I had shown that the ban will not affect you
I wish I can reject meat too

Nothing is actually impossible when it comes to food intake, but then, for me there must be a genuine reason before I'll agree to stop eating meat.
