Source,
For this edition, I was excited when I saw the theme because it depicts a lot and above all is a timely one. The topic before us is holiday season and fortunately the students just finished the long vacation in my dear country Nigeria. Holiday seasons are very important. Can holidays be enough? What does holiday even mean?
Holiday is a period or time set aside as a tradition to suspend normal activities for a while. In Nigeria holiday are special moments where organization and the country at large lawfully set aside to hault activities either to comemerate an event either as a religious function or cultural reasons. In this time one is expected either to stay or move to family or take a break in order to get refreshed. It's commonly said all work without play makes jack a dull. Therefore holiday enables one to take a rest and face other aspects of life. Everyone needs holiday.
In Nigeria generally, there are public and national holidays. For instance, every June 12 is set aside for democracy day where the memories of our fore fathers are being remembered and celebrated wonderfully. Another national holiday is the first October that is loading for few days to come. This day every sector or organization is haunted and is expected to refrain from work for that day. If it happens to be weekends such breaks are shifted to the next day.
Aside the national and public holidays we also have religious holidays like Christmas, Eid-el-fitr and many other breaks which affords the religious setting time to get refreshed and celebrate their heroes.
Holiday is a good time that enables one to have quality time to rest and relax. Life is not all about work, work and work alone. There is need for time-out. The physical and mental health need to be properly considered in such times.
Holidays are moment for many people in Nigeria to improve their family relationships. It's an opportunity where families unite, spend quality time and strengthen the bonds. There are many families that barely meet in a year but because of the certainty of holiday, many of them plan themselves and schedule for holiday season.
The significance of holiday in Nigeria can't be overemphasized because we need it and it can't be enough. I'm not saying that it should be holiday all through without people engaging themselves into something productive but people should try and have good timeout when it's necessary. There are many people that died as a result of fatigue and other mental illnesses. How can you be working and running shifts without having a quality time of break? When we take break, it gets us good time to get ourselves back to work or any assignment.
I think the holiday we have at the national level is ok however most organizations should endeavor to restructure their calendars to give allowance for their workers to get refreshed. That would go a long way to reduce the rate of cardiac arrest.
Holiday season would help workers to regain themselves for more impacts.
Thanks for reading through my entry for this edition two of week 184 engagement in this beautiful community.
