The Legacy of Educated Women in Islam

Education is the foundation of progress, civilization, and prosperity for any society. However, when it comes to the education of women, its importance doubles because an educated woman does not just improve herself as an individual but refines an entire generation. This is why it is said that if you educate a man, you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman, you educate a whole generation.

In this text, we will attempt to understand how female education polishes the empowerment, confidence, and abilities of women, and how this matter plays a fundamental role in social progress, national welfare, and global peace and stability. When we begin our research with the religious and historical background of women's education, we find that Islam has made education obligatory for both men and women. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said that seeking knowledge is a duty upon every Muslim man and woman.

The interesting point here is that Islam has called it a "duty" rather than a "right." A right is something a person can choose to forgo. For example, giving food to beggars is a right; if we wish, we may not give it, or give it to some and not others, as we have a level of freedom. However, feeding this same food to one's own children is a responsibility. Feeding parents in their old age is a responsibility. These are not optional for us; we cannot abandon them. Similarly, education is a duty that we cannot leave, nor can we escape it even if we want to, whether we are men or women.

This is why, when we read about the wife of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), Hazrat Aisha (RA), we learn that she was a highly expert woman in knowledge and jurisprudence. The condition of other women of that era was nearly the same. In the early Muslim society, women did not only receive education but also provided it. History bears witness that many Muslim women became jurists, gaining mastery and command over the science of Fiqh. Many became scholars of Hadith and taught traditions. Countless others learned the science of medicine and became the nurses and doctors of that era. There were many who gained deep influence in literature, and thus each performed prominent feats in various intellectual fields.

The Social Impact and Health Benefits of Women's Education

It must also be remembered that the education of women has a very deep social impact. An educated woman establishes a strong family system. An educated mother provides better upbringing for her children. A conscious mother passes on not only worldly knowledge to her offspring but also religious awareness, ethics, the value of time, and a sense of national responsibility.

The same applies to health and well-being. Educated women possess better information regarding health, hygiene, nutrition, and child development, which improves the overall health of the family. Furthermore, this education is the key to ending poverty. Educated women can become self-sufficient through employment, business, or online work.

Economic Growth and National Development

I claim that female education is the driver of the economy. According to United Nations reports, if women in developing countries are given equal education, an increase of 20 to 30 percent in GDP is possible. By learning skills, educated women are making their place in business, jobs, and modern fields such as IT, medicine, teaching, law, and engineering. Many women are earning on a global level through online marketing, freelancing, and digital platforms. Imagine how excellent our economy would become if we gave them the opportunity to work openly.

Moreover, education creates awareness within a human being, and the education of women will lead to the construction of our nation. Alongside this, extremism will be eliminated from our society. Education creates the etiquette of questioning, understanding, and speaking with logic in a woman, due to which she will not fall prey to extremist ideologies.

Challenges and Proposed Solutions

However, we must also realize that this task is not so easy. For this, we must work hard day and night because we face various types of problems and difficulties that deprive our women of their right to education. A large number of our people live in rural areas where there is an extreme shortage of educational institutions. Similarly, there are various types of social and cultural barriers, ignorance, and a lack of financial resources.

The solution to all these problems is quite simple. First of all, we must provide educational awareness. The necessity of education must be instilled in the hearts and minds of every individual. Once they understand the need and importance of education, we must provide subsidies and scholarships for girls' education as a first step. Along with this, we must conduct workshops for female teachers and involve them in this campaign, while also increasing their numbers.

Remember that female education is not just the progress of an individual but a guarantee for the bright future of the entire nation. An educated woman not only improves her own life but plays a role in bettering the entire society around her. In today's world, where the pace of change is very fast, keeping women deprived of education is equivalent to suicide for any nation. Therefore, spreading female education is not just a welfare act but a national, human, and religious duty. It truly is the "key to success" at the individual, collective, and global levels.

اسلام میں تعلیم یافتہ خواتین کا علمی ورثہ

تعلیم کسی بھی معاشرے کی ترقی، تہذیب اور خوشحالی کی بنیاد ہے مگر جب بات عورت کی تعلیم کی ہو تو اس کی اہمیت دو چند ہو جاتی ہے کیونکہ تعلیم یافتہ عورت صرف ایک فرد نہیں بلکہ ایک نسل کو سنوارتی ہے۔ یہی وجہ ہے کہ کہا جاتا ہے کہ تم ایک مرد کو تعلیم دو تو ایک فرد تعلیم یافتہ ہوگا اور اگر ایک عورت کو تعلیم دو تو پوری نسل سنورتی ہے۔

آج کی تحریر میں ہم یہ سمجھنے کی کوشش کریں گے کہ تعلیم نسواں کیسے خواتین کی خود مختاری، اعتماد اور صلاحیتوں کو نکھارتی ہے اور یہ معاملہ کیسے معاشرتی ترقی اور قومی فلاح سے ہوتے ہوئے عالمی امن و استحکام میں بنیادی کردار ادا کرتا ہے۔ ہم اپنی تحقیق کی ابتدا "تعلیم نسواں" یعنی عورت کی تعلیم کے دینی و تاریخی پس منظر سے کرتے ہیں تو ہمیں معلوم ہوتا ہے کہ دین اسلام نے مرد و عورت دونوں پر تعلیم کو فرض قرار دیا ہے۔ جناب نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ تعلیم حاصل کرنا ہر مسلمان مرد اور عورت پر فرض ہے۔

یہاں لطف کی بات یہ ہے کہ اسلام نے اسے "حق" نہیں بلکہ "فرض" کہا ہے کیونکہ حق وہ ہوتا ہے جو اگر بندہ چاہے تو چھوڑ سکتا ہے مثلاً گداگروں کو کھانا دینا حق ہے، اگر ہم چاہیں تو نہ دیں، یا کسی کو دیں اور کسی کو نہ دیں، ہمیں قدر آزادی حاصل ہے لیکن یہی کھانا اپنی اولاد کو کھلانا ہماری ذمہ داری ہے۔ بڑھاپے میں والدین کو کھلانا ذمہ داری ہے۔ یہ ہمارے لیے آپشنل نہیں، ہم اسے چھوڑ نہیں سکتے۔ اسی طرح تعلیم فرض ہے، جسے ہم چھوڑ نہیں سکتے، چاہ کر بھی چھٹکارا نہیں، خواہ مرد ہوں یا عورت۔

یہی وجہ ہے کہ جب ہم حضور صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی زوجہ حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہ کے بارے میں پڑھتے ہیں تو معلوم ہوتا ہے کہ وہ علم و فقہ کی نہایت ماہر خاتون تھیں۔ قریب قریب یہی حال اس زمانے کی دیگر خواتین کا تھا بلکہ ابتدائی مسلم معاشرے میں خواتین نہ صرف تعلیم حاصل کرتی تھیں بلکہ تعلیم دیتی بھی تھیں۔ تاریخ گواہ ہے کہ کئی مسلم خواتین فقیہات ہوئیں، علم فقہ میں دسترس اور کمانڈ حاصل کی، کئی محدثات بنیں اور احادیث پڑھائیں، کتنی ہی نے علم طب سیکھا اور اس زمانے کی نرس، طبیبہ اور ڈاکٹر بنیں، کتنی ایسی تھیں، جنہوں نے ادب میں رسوخ حاصل کیا اور یوں ہر ایک نے مختلف علمی میدان میں نمایاں کارنامے انجام دیے۔

تعلیم نسواں کے سماجی اثرات اور فوائد

قارئین کرام! یہ بھی یاد رکھیے کہ عورتوں کی تعلیم کا سماجی اثر بھی بہت گہرا ہوتا ہے۔ پڑھی لکھی خاتون ایک مضبوط خاندانی نظام تشکیل دیتی ہیں۔ تعلیم یافتہ ماں بچوں کی بہتر تربیت کرتی ہے۔ ایک باشعور ماں اولاد کو نہ صرف دنیاوی علم دیتی ہے بلکہ دینی شعور، اخلاقیات، وقت کی قدر اور قومی ذمہ داریوں کا احساس بھی منتقل کرتی ہے۔

یہی حال صحت و بہبود کا ہے کہ تعلیمی یافتہ خواتین صحت و صفائی، غذائیت اور بچوں کی نشونما کے بارے میں بہتر معلومات رکھتی ہیں، جو خاندان کی مجموعی صحت کو بہتر بناتی ہیں۔ نیز یہی تعلیم غربت سے خاتمے کی کنجی ہے۔ تعلیم یافتہ خواتین ملازمت، کاروبار یا آن لائن ورک کے ذریعے خود کفیل بن سکتی ہیں۔

معاشی ترقی اور قومی تعمیر میں عورت کا کردار

قارئین کرام! میرا دعوی ہے کہ تعلیم نسواں ہی معیشت کی بھی محرک ہے کیونکہ اقوام متحدہ کی رپورٹ کے مطابق اگر ترقی پذیر ممالک میں خواتین کو برابر تعلیم دی جائے تو جی ڈی پی میں 20 سے 30 فیصد اضافہ ممکن ہے۔ تعلیم یافتہ خواتین ہنر سیکھ کر کاروبار، نوکری اور جدید فیلڈز میں جگہ بنا رہی ہیں جیسے آئی ٹی، میڈیکل، تدریس، وکالت اور انجینئرنگ وغیرہ۔ کئی خواتین آن لائن مارکیٹنگ، فری لانسنگ اور ڈیجیٹل پلیٹ فارمز کے ذریعے عالمی سطح پر کمائی کر رہی ہیں۔ سوچیے اگر ہم انہیں کھل کر کام کرنے کا موقع دیں تو ہماری معیشت کتنی عمدہ ہو جائے گی؟

نیز تعلیم انسان کے اندر شعور پیدا کرتی ہے اور خواتین کی تعلیم ہماری قوم کی تعمیر کا باعث بنے گا۔ اسی کے ساتھ ہمارے معاشرے سے انتہا پسندی کا خاتمہ ہوگا۔ تعلیم عورت میں سوال کرنے سمجھنے اور دلیل کے ساتھ بات کرنے کا سلیقہ پیدا کرتی ہے، جس سے وہ انتہا پسند نظریات کا شکار نہیں ہوگی۔

تعلیمی مسائل اور ان کا حل

تاہم ہمیں یہ بھی معلوم ہونا چاہیے کہ یہ کام اتنا آسان بھی نہیں۔ اس کے لیے ہمیں دن رات محنت کرنی ہوگی کیونکہ ہمارے ہاں ایک نہیں مختلف طرح کے مسائل اور مشکلات ہیں، جن کی وجہ سے ہماری خواتین اپنے حق کی تعلیم سے محروم رہ جاتی ہیں۔ مثلاً ہمارے ہاں ایک بڑی تعداد دیہی علاقوں میں رہتی ہے، جہاں تعلیمی اداروں کی انتہائی کمی ہے۔ اسی طرح ہمارے ہاں مختلف نوعیت کی سماجی و ثقافتی رکاوٹیں ہیں، جہالت ہے، مالی وسائل کی کمی ہے وغیرہ وغیرہ۔

ان سب مسائل کا حل بڑا آسان ہے۔ سب سے پہلے تو ہمیں تعلیمی شعور اور اویرنس دینی ہوگی۔ تعلیم کی ضرورت ہر فرد و بشر کے دل و دماغ میں بٹھانی ہوگی۔ اس کے بعد جب وہ تعلیم کی ضرورت و اہمیت کو سمجھ چکیں تو ہمیں پہلے قدم کے طور پر لڑکیوں کی تعلیم پر سبسڈی اور اسکالرشپ دینی ہوگی۔ اس کے ساتھ ہمیں خواتین اساتذہ کو ورکشاپ کرا کر اس مہم پر لگانا ہوگا۔ نیز ان کی تعداد میں اضافہ کرنا ہوگا۔

قارئین کرام! یاد رکھیے تعلیم نسواں صرف ایک فرد کی ترقی نہیں، بلکہ پوری قوم کے روشن مستقبل کی ضمانت ہے۔ ایک تعلیم یافتہ عورت نہ صرف اپنی زندگی سنوارتی ہے بلکہ اپنے ارد گرد کے پورے معاشرے کو بہتر بنانے میں کردار ادا کرتی ہے۔ آج کی دنیا میں جہاں تبدیلی کے رفتار بہت تیز ہے، وہاں خواتین کو تعلیم سے محروم رکھنا کسی قوم کے لیے خودکشی کے مترادف ہے، لہٰذا تعلیم نسواں کو عام کرنا صرف ایک فلاحی عمل نہیں بلکہ ایک قومی، انسانی اور دینی فریضہ ہے۔ یہ واقعی "کامیابی کی کنجی" ہے، انفرادی سطح پر بھی، اجتماعی سطح پر بھی اور عالمی سطح پر بھی!
