A Ban on Meat: To Abide or to Break It?

I tend to wonder sometimes; well, a few times, how do vegetarians and vegans cope with their choice of diet? In a world filled with wonderful animals that could serve as sumptuous meat, they chose not to be partakers. I consider that they have reasons for these choices, and they are entitled to such opinions and decisions. Maybe I find that quite puzzling to wrap my head around because of the part of the world I come from.

We know the season we're in. Yes, it's Christmas and you can be sure that a lot of eating of meat will be going on. As kids, one of the things we looked up to was eating meat. So, it should be understood when I say that feasting on meat is a part of the lives of many of us. Then, say after all these years of being used to meat, enjoying every bit of it-except for the ones I don't eat or parts I don't eat as well-I get banned from eating it. Just me, not everyone.

Well, I tell you it won't look good. Not really bad though, and I'll tell you why later. But at this point, it won't be a nice experience, initially, most of all. As I mentioned, we're in a season where you can say this meat is found in β€œabundance.” You can merely be walking by different houses today and be sure of perceiving the nice smell of meat dancing in boiling oil in the frying pan. And then, you tell me I won't eat that meat? When I go to a friend's place, and they offer me rice and meat, I won't eat that meat?

At first, I'll break that ban a couple of times. Especially in a time like this, and when the meat that I'm offered is chicken. Yes, I might survive through the year but during this period or other celebration, bear with me, I'll feast on meat. But wait, what reason would it be for the ban? Am I just banned from eating it for no good reason or for a reason that might be necessary for me? That's where I feel for those who have been advised on medical grounds to abstain from eating meat. Well, that's advice not a ban. I might still break the ban in some cases, not every time.

Here then is why I said it wouldn't be that bad for me. I like meat and that's true. However, not to the extent that I'll go far and wide for it. I've heard people complain about how they don't eat food without meat. No offence. I tend to wonder in such moments when I did consistently eat food with meat. It could be a matter of choice or inadequacy, but I don't really make it a must. I'm not trying to sound nice here. Chuckles.

You'll understand then when I say that initially, it won't be an easy ride to take such a ban. With time, perhaps I could. Maybe I could look at meat, stare it down, salivate and say no, I'll uphold the ban. Maybe I'll have to break the ban from time to time. Why I consider the possibility is because, though I like meat and enjoy eating it, I haven't made it a must. This is perhaps because I don't eat it regularly. I should, or might be able to, but it won't be easy to live by.

I literally asked the same question when I responded to this prompt. It makes no sense to willingly sideline meat when it seems like us part of our existence. Omo vegetarians dey try abeg, it can never be me

I can eat my food without meat especially red meat. Doctors advice us to reduce our meat intake and increase fish intake.

But I doubt I would be able to avoid meat completely or entirely. This is just the truth.

Make Yoruba people answer this prompt because na Dem like meat pass for their culture 😁.

After reading this I began to imagine how life would have been without meat and I asked myself a simple what could possibly be the use of our teeth without meat. Teeth would be of no use then.

Omo banning meat is a no go area.

Doctors tried it on my mum but she refuses to adhere seriously, we tried to stop her but she forcefully eat meat and I am surprised she is still alive despite the ban on meat they gave her, more than 7-8yrs now bruh.

Sha I can do without meat sometimes but not when is available for consumption.

Those folks (vegetarians) are trying.
