Touched by Divinity: No wings, just purpose

I Met an Angel on Campus 😇

Having an encounter with an angel is always a wonderful moment. So it was during one of my days on campus. Talking about my school, we have two main campuses. The first campus is for all faculties except engineering students, and it is called the North Campus. The second campus is mainly for engineering students, known as the South Campus. Therefore, as a computer engineering student, we receive about 75% of our lectures in South Campus.

Being a student that doesn’t really like crowds, I rented an apartment outside the school area. My apartment was a bit far from South Campus and slightly closer to North Campus. This meant that if I didn’t want to be late, I had to take bus or bike to South Campus. Although the journey from my place to South Campus is trekkable, its about 25 minutes if one decides to walk.

So on this faithful day, I was rushing to class to submit an assignment. To make things worse, I didn’t have transport fare with me that day. Nothing at all. Because of that, I had already decided to wake up early and start trekking. In fact, I left one of my neighbors at home. He is my course mate and we are in the same department, computer engineering.

While trekking and rushing to class, I met this guy on the road. Our paths just crossed, and interestingly, he was heading toward the same direction as me. He stopped me and asked if I was going to South Campus on foot. At first, in my mind, I thought, Of course, I am trekking to South Campus, because it was not my first time trekking there. It wasn’t that I was ignorant of where I was going. As a matter of fact, I was even taking a short cut.

I replied, Yes, I am heading to South Campus.

He asked, Which department?

I said, Computer engineering.

He was like, Wow, I’m also in computer engineering, but not in my level. That got me surprised a bit.
We talked briefly like people who had known each other for longer than a few seconds. There was something calm about the conversation, even though I was rushing. It felt like the moment paused itself for that encounter.
Then came the most interesting part.

He asked for my account details, and without wasting time, he sent me ×5 of my transport fare so that I could just carry bike and not trek all the way. I didn’t even know what to say at first. It felt unreal. I was grateful. That help made me submit the assignment on time, and I still had some change left with me that day.
What really amazed me the most was not just the money, but the timing and the kindness behind it. Someone I had never met before saw stress on my face and decided to be the answer to it. That alone felt angelic to me.

The next day, I got to the department and headed to class just to thank him properly. But I couldn’t find him. I checked the following day again, nothing. Another day passed still nothing. I even tried another time after that, but I couldn’t find him. It was like he appeared only for that moment and left after fulfilling the purpose of kindness.

I was really amazed. Till today, I still think about it. The encounter left a mark on me, and I truly know that angels thoroughly exist. Sometimes they don’t show up with wings or bright light. Sometimes they just cross your path when you need help the most, speak your language, understand your struggle, and become your miracle for that day.

That experience strengthened my faith in humanity and in God. It reminded me that heaven can reach you anywhere even on a campus road, through a stranger whose face you may never see again.
