AI as a Tool, Not a Master

When I saw today’s prompt, I was quite unsure about which approach I should follow, and especially which point of view I would defend. That’s because I believe there are two possible answers to the same question, and each one is valid from its own perspective.

Undoubtedly, that thing we have come to call artificial intelligence has brought conveniences to many of us, who have explored its "free" workforce to produce something useful in our lives, in our work, in our daily routines. Using AI may have been what allowed some of us to regain a bit of time for ourselves, or for our families.

I can speak for myself when I say that the existence of AI has allowed me to produce things that I could not do alone in my work. That’s because I have many ideas, but I don’t have the ability to implement all of them. And along this path, I can say that I continue to be the creative mind that guides the AI I command to build improvements and conveniences in my work daily!

So the first answer is:

NO! The existence of AI has not annihilated my creative capacity!

On the contrary! I am finally managing to materialize ideas for improvements that I noticed while dealing with legacy computerized systems in my work, and I am effectively creating modules that improve my productivity. After all, I am writing this text during my extended coffee break, which only exists because I automated routines using AI.

On the other hand, I also witness—and see this daily in some colleagues—that the existence of AI has become a crutch. Texts are no longer read, because AI summarizes them. Calculations are no longer done, because AI calculates them. These people have outsourced their own thinking, and are no longer able to create and elaborate. They have become lazy and dependent. What they don’t realize is that outsourcing the effort of thinking is actually a privatization of their own capacity:

• Your ability to think competently declines, and if your job is related to your thinking skills, know that it is at risk!
• The outsourced agent that is "thinking" for you actually has an owner, and sooner or later you will have to pay that bill.

That’s why I believe both answers exist simultaneously: there are those who use AI to boost themselves, and at the same time there are those who use AI to become complacent. Remaining unaware are those who are not connected to this new world, and who will suffer the consequences of this late adoption (it all starts with underpaid jobs).

Today, I just created a routine that simplifies document analysis within the company. At this moment, the AI has already coded it, and I have already sent it for testing, which will take place in the production environment. I am not an IT professional or anything like that, but I can apply specific improvements, and my job is to conceptualize the process, while the AI is responsible for coding my intent.

Curiously, many times I need to say no to the AI agent, which reminds me exactly who is in charge of all this: ME!

Quando vi o prompt do tema de hoje, fiquei bastante indeciso em qual abordagem deveria seguir, e principalmente que ponto de vista eu iria defender. Isso porque acredito que cabem duas respostas para a mesma pergunta, e cada uma é válida desde seu ponto de vista.

Indubitavelmente aquela coisa que se convencionou chamar de inteligência artificial trouxe mordomias para muitos de nós, que exploraram sua força de trabalho "grátis" para produzir algo útil em nossa vida, em nosso trabalho, em nosso dia-a-dia. Usar IA pode ter sido o que permitiu a alguns de nós recuperar um pouco de tempo para si próprio, ou para sua família.

Posso falar por mim quando digo que a existência da IA me permitiu produzir coisas que eu não poderia fazer sozinho, em meu trabalho. Isso porque eu tenho muitas ideias, mas não tenho a capacidade de implementar todas elas. E por este caminho, posso dizer que continuo sendo o cérebro criativo, que guia a IA que eu comando para construir melhorias e facilidades no meu trabalho diariamente!

Então a primeira resposta é:

NÃO! A existência da IA não aniquilou minha capacidade criativa!

Pelo contrário! Estou finalmente conseguindo concretizar ideias de melhorias que percebia ao lidar com os sistemas informatizados legados em meu trabalho e estou efetivamente criando módulos que melhoram a minha produtividade. Afinal, estou escrevendo este texto no meu intervalo ampliado de café, que só existe pois automatizei rotinas com o uso de IA.

Por outro lado, também presencio e vejo isso diariamente em alguns colegas, que a existência da IA se tornou uma muleta. Textos já não são lidos, pois a IA resume. Cálculos não são feitos, pois a IA calcula. Estes terceirizaram seu próprio pensamento, e já não são capazes de criar e elaborar. Ficaram preguiçosos e dependentes. O que eles não percebem é que a terceirização do esforço de pensar é na verdade uma privatização da sua própria capacidade:

• Sua habilidade de pensar com competência entra em declínio, e se o seu emprego está relacionado ao seu talento de pensar, saiba que ele está em risco!
• O agente terceirizado que está "pensando" por você na verdade tem dono, e cedo ou tarde você vai precisar pagar essa conta.

Por isso eu penso que existem as duas respostas em simultâneo: existem aqueles que usam IA para impulsionar a si mesmos, e ao mesmo tempo existe aqueles que usam a IA para acomodar-se. Restam alheios aqueles que não estão conectados nesse novo mundo, e que sofrerão as consequências desse ingresso tardio (tudo começa com empregos subremunerados).

Hoje mesmo eu acabei de criar uma rotina que simplifica a análise documental dentro da empresa, neste instante a IA já codificou e eu já enviei para o teste que ocorrerá dentro do ambiente de produção. Eu não sou responsável de TI nem nada do tipo, mas consigo aplicar melhorias pontuais, e meu trabalho é idealizar o processo, enquanto a IA fica responsável por codificar a minha vontade.

Curiosamente, muitas vezes preciso dizer não para o agente IA, o que me faz lembrar exatamente quem está no comando disso tudo. EU!
