A Hidden Dessert Gem in Paris.

Check out my entry for #TheCoffeeShopPrompt and go to the Cinnamon Cup Coffee community to see if you would like to participate as well.

Back in the summer of 2022 when we were still living in France my sister came to visit us at our home. It was her first time in France and I believe her first time in Europe, so we spent a few days touring her around the area and showing her the sites. On one of the days we took the train into Paris to see the city and sample a few of its Parisian cafés.

We found a pretty unassuming location along one of the streets near the Louvre and stopped to enjoy a cappuccino and a latte. Or maybe it was a flat white, I don't really remember.

20220712_102307~2.jpg

Anyway, the coffees were pretty good. Hers had a dusting of cocoa powder on it as you can see. I prefer not to have cocoa on mine, but I will admit that it does make it look fancier.

Whenever we go somewhere I often like to try the local dessert specialties of the place, if possible. Paris is a massive city though, so it doesn't really have just one specialty, more like hundreds. I remembered reading about this little spot called Odette though, that supposedly sold really good cream puffs.

I had seen the building before but never knew what it's purpose was. I figured that this with my sister would be a good time to check it out. The shop is set in this neat little spot sort of sandwiched and hidden within the corner of two other much larger buildings. It's a really quaint and charming shop and sort of a hidden gem in the area.

I popped in to buy some cream puffs, opting for a box of six for 11.00 euro. I figured that two euro a dessert was pretty reasonable, if they were good. They had a large selection and I ended up choosing the following flavors: chocolate, vanilla, caramel, coffee, lemon, and mango. We took them home and had them for dessert that night.

My sister, my wife and I each had two of them but we also cut them in half to swap and try some additional flavors.

Our expectations were pretty low before hand so we were all pleasantly surprised at how good they were. They were really delicious in flavor and texture and I only wished that I had bought more.

Odette in Paris is definitely a hidden gem in my opinion, in more ways than one. The building itself is pretty neat to go and see and the desserts that they sell are incredibly delicious. It's certainly worth checking out in the big city.

The area around there is pretty cool too. It's near the Notre Dame Cathedral and there is a neat English bookstore right by Odette called Shakespeare and Co. It's supposed to be neat as well. I have been in before because it was closed one day that I tried and the next the line was was too long. Maybe you will have better luck if it's something that you're interested in.

I’ve heard of the Bookshop and it would be somewhere we’d visit. Like our books.

I so agree with you that Odette in Paris is a hidden gem. Looking at the pictures, the creamy puffs were delicious and the coffee had a very good presentation. How I love the place and more beautiful spots like this to visit. Have a great day and keep safe.

A dessert favoured gem! WoW, that’s pretty cool. Odette’s presentation box is rather sweet(hehe) too. Looks like you’d love a chance to pay the place another visit (sometimes planes have their uses. )
Parisian coffee looks incredibly chic, trust the French; they add a dash of fairy dust to everything they touch, don’t they?

Pun pun pun pun pun 🤣

Yeah French desserts are hard to top in my opinion. I miss that most about the country. The coffee was a lot better than what we have here in Canada too. We haven't even figured out how to do a proper Americano here. I keep buying them over regular drip coffee and then regretting paying the extra money for something virtually indistinguishable to filtered coffee. Lol

Odette looks rather special. The presentation box reminds me of a place here where I get macaroons. Must be a french thing. It is great to find these sort of gems especially in big cities. Mmm - they must have been great with coffee.

Shops can charge more when things look fancy 😂
It's not surprising that the Macarons were presented in a fancy box. They are a fancy cookie. Lol

Unassuming places are the best and always make a last impression. They present the best surprises 😊
The Odette building is unique as also the green one next to it. In both places, planter boxes and flowers add so much personality.

The cream puffs look awesome, and I'd have sampled all except the chocolate. The flavours are varied and incredible.

Odette really is a hidden gem that I'd be sure to check out if ever in Paris. Your hidden gem gif is cute, so you!:)

Perfect post for this prompt.👏
Thank you so much for sharing this with the community!

Yeah I'm not sure if the green building is a part of Odette or it's own place. I couldn't tell.

They had more flavors as well, maybe 10 or so in total. I only got 6 so I couldn't try them all. I would have liked to though lol.

Whew! Look at all this deliciousness. I really want one now. Do they do way billing? Lol. Just kidding. Coffee with a sprinkle of cocoa powder? I am learning a lot of new things here.

The cocoa powder is pretty common on cappuccinos in France and other places we've been in Europe as well

Odette sounds like a great place. Those pastries look very delicious as well. The servings are just the right size too. It's great spending quality time with the people you love in the places you love.
Thanks for sharing. !ALIVE
