About three weeks ago, I got some gifts and amongst these was a pack of Folgers and Coffee mate. At first I thought to decline the offer of coffee mainly because I don't drink coffee (now I know I would've regretted that decision). Surprisingly my thing with coffee had absolutely nothing to do with coffee and everything to do with tea.
For some reason the aroma of tea nauseates me and I can't stand it when someone is brewing a cup of tea (I immediately find somewhere else to be). Growing up I didn't have any problem with it, up until my teenage years when all of a sudden the aroma started to disturb my stomach. Ever since then, it's bye bye anything tea related.
Right now, we've got serious rainfall and there's a bit of cold, and I need something to take the chill away. Over the years I've always had to rely on drinking a little bit of hot water to keep warm on such mornings since tea is out of the question. I wouldn't say I've not thought about drinking coffee over the years, but unlike some countries where people are big on drinking coffee, my country Nigeria is more inclined towards drinking tea or hot chocolate.
So, gift of coffee comes out of the blue like a knight in shining armor ready to save me from the chill of the cold weather. Alas, it still takes me three whole weeks to decide on trying out a cup and finding our whether I actually like it or not and most importantly whether it nauseates me. Fortunately for me, I took one sniff of the aroma from my roommates cup (we both got gifts of coffee) and knew immediately I wouldn't be having any problems with coffee.
It was then down to whether I would love the taste, and this time I experimented a bit. I love how the movies portray the scenes with coffee. You probably have a CEO come into the office and then asks his secretary to get him coffee.
Secretary: Good morning boss.
CEO: Good morning Ana.
Secretary: The usual?
CEO: No, this time I want it black, no cream, no sugar.
So, I got a cup and some hot water, added a packet of Folgers roast, stirred and took a sip. The bitter taste hit me and I was like Nahhhh, black won't work for me. I guess it's probably an acquired taste for those who do not like any additives to their coffee.
I whipped out my coffee mate and added a few spoons ( I might've overcompensated, but in my defence I was still experimenting) and voila the change was instantaneous. I took another sip and as the new taste flowed into my mouth, I wondered why I'd hesitated to try it out for a whole three weeks.
My first cup of coffee was actually at night. I wanted to see if the whole caffeine and no sleep thing I'd always heard about would also apply to me. Although I slept about an hour later than I usually do, I'm not entirely sure if its because of the cup of coffee or reels of funny videos I was watching online.

The images here are from my second cup of coffee and although I love the taste, I don't think I've gotten to that stage where I'd drink coffee everyday (not sure if too much is good). I'd probably check for brewing ideas and what other things go best with coffee, but for now I'm just enjoying each cup of coffee one at a time.
If you've read up till this point, thanks for taking the time. I might've written in some unnecessary info, but I just like to write the way I think.
